Options re - video - how to
Hope someone can help.
If I want to store video files at my site, what underlying programs do I need to ultimately let users watch the videos. Following on from that, how within Drupal would this be achieved.
I'm helping my brother out with this one but in the past for my sites I've always just linked to YouTube and let YouTube handle the process. My brother has a 100 mb video file and the last time I checked that's too big for YouTube.
Steve.

drupal video wall
as discussed at last night's meetup, here's the link to zivtech's drupal video wall. there's loads and loads of content here and i haven't had near enough time to parse through it all, so i can't say whether it's all good, all bad, or halfsies.
take a look for yourself and let us know which videos you find helpful!

Read moredistinguishing characteristics of a community media center
Much like living organisms are classified into groups (say, spiders) where many individual species (say, daddy long legs, black widow, tarantula) exist, we still have some distinguishing characteristics (eight legs, no wings) which separate it from other similar living organisms (say, bees).
I'd like to hear about what you would define as the distinguishing characteristics of a community media organization.

Was great to see everyone at the Alliance for Community Media conference. In an effort to improve communication between everyone working on this project, or tools related to this project, Open Flows agreed to host an Open Media group on their SILC (encrypted irc) server. The server is emma.openflows.com, and the channel is #om. There are already a few people living in there and we would love to see as many people available as possible. There are several SILC ready clients, for osx there is colloquy . On Windows Pidgin works (http://www.pidgin.im/).
Read moreFilefield + jQuery Media Screencast
Following on the heels of a great thread, I put together a screencast using the CCK Filefield module as a container for video media files and then applying the jQuery Media module to play back those media files in the appropriate player/method. I've been looking for a replacement for the video.module for some time and I wanted to put this recipe under a microscope. Check it out the screenie, feel free to drop me a line if you loved or hated it.

we're mostly friendly. and mostly fun. but we're pretty geeky. in a cool way, of course. but this month we're a bit melancholy on the news Crystal is leaving us for Seattle. :-/
the good news is that we taped our meeting. ya, real geeky. but LA area is HUGE. and sometimes making it to the meeting in person can be difficult. so there you go... we're geeky but thinking about everyone that wanted to join us, but couldn't.

Hi there,
Good to see representatives from the BAy Area!
I am wondering if someone on this group has experience with the Video module. I need to do some tweaking and alignments to the module on my website (www.altglobe.com).
Payment upon experience and productivity.
Cheers,

Aggregating video feeds on your site using OpenPackage Video
The major new feature of OpenPackage Video 5.x-3.8 is integration with Feed Element Mapper (feedapi_mapper).
The development of this functionality was sponsored by Hudson Street Media using our bounty system:
http://openpackage.biz/bounty/15
http://openpackage.biz/bounty/14
Feed Element Mapper is an add-on module for FeedAPI that maps a feed's elements such as tags or (in this case) videos to taxonomy or CCK fields on your site.
This enables your site to aggregate videos from other sites.
I have set up various video feeds on our site as a demonstration. Click on the 'Feed item' links to view the videos.

OpenPackage Media has developed a new collaborative funding technique: Bounty.
Bounty works like this: Participants make a pledge to pay a certain amount of the bounty. Once the bounty has been fully pledged, they are billed for 50%. Once we have completed the bounty task, participants are billed for the balance.
Read the orientation guide for full details.
We have created two bounties for our OpenPackage Video module to start with:
If these go well, there will be many more to follow. Please consider pledging (even a small amount).
