CASH Music and Drupal?
Here's a blurb from http://cashmusic.org:
Read moreCASH Music is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Our software will provide a set of open source applications that will provide musicians the ability to communicate, promote and sell products directly to their audience. We want our software and engineers to set the pace and provide an alternative to the media giants.
Sustainability for artists is the goal, and an open source solution gives musicians and coders the power to build solutions together. We can’t rely on Facebook, the RIAA, or even Apple to invent a new model that works with the best interests of artists in mind. Let's create those models together.
Music Features for Drupal
In this thread the question is asked if a music distribution or separate modules is the best way to achieve turn key functionality needed for a music site. The answer, I believe, is an alternative path.
The alternative path is to abstract things out into an application layer, with Features. There is lots of info about Features on the project page (and it shares some ideas with the now defunct Patterns module), but conceptually this graphic sums it up best:
Having had some experience working with Features this year, I can tell you it is pretty raw. A Feature has hooks and functions to turn on and off things on your site. At its simplest, it will turn on a few modules and change a few defaults. At its most complex, it will need to manually override database variables. It's messy development and takes time. But the real beauty is that it allows developers to focus on functionality instead of technicality. It also allows independent development of features that, combined, can achieve something that looks like a distribution. And for the user, they don't need to know how it works, they just need to know what it can do.
We are lucky, since we have already identified some useful features needed for an art & music Drupal site / mobile application, and perhaps the next step is to refine and prioritize the list.

Hi All,
I'm in the process of producing a web-based tutorial for music students to introduce them to computer music making. I'd be very interested to see your comments and suggestions for improvements regarding the content, presentation & whatever really.
The site is Drupal 5 using Asset for media, Lightbox, Quiz amongst others.
Please don't tell me to upgrade to Drupal 6 - it's in the pipeline but not till the next funding round.
thanks in advance
Marcus

I am beginning the development of an interactive course in computer music production as part of a larger educational research project. I have some experience in Drupal already and I want to capitalise on this and expand my knowledge of the system.
The project does not have a big community element although there will be different user classes i.e. student/educator/admin
The main requirements are:
Students view and educators view - I'm thinking of a 3 column design with nav and course pages for students and an extra column for teachers/facilitators
Read moreGuitar Module stable release
The guitar module reached its first stable release today.
The main reason for this release is to fix current issues, which were mainly a lack of documentation and validation, before I start working on a set of new features for the 6.2 version.
Some of the planned new features include:
- Chord fingering suggestions based on chord name.
- Validation based on chord playability.
- Intuitive input widget to keep users from having to deal with the [x,3,2,0,1,0] notation, which has confused more than one before.

EDIT 2:
While I await good counsel here re. the best way to manage the upload and download of video in Drupal I think that I can hard-code HTML to link to videos posted on GodTube the same as we handle a news article:
