Not new to Drupal, art, or music, just this group

Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been an amateur musician for about 20 years and a professional programmer for about 10. I've been using Drupal for a year or so and have built a bunch of sites with it.

Now I'm building a site for my new band (I haven't been in a band since high school), and I've decided to do it with Drupal's multisite feature under a fresh install of a fresh domain. I'll be starting with some (or all) of the suggestions from http://groups.drupal.org/node/5167 and I'll try to report my findings here.

TuneCore, another music distribution service

Just raising awareness about digital distribution options...TuneCore is a music service that claims to charge a one time fee per track or album to get your music on iTunes and other digital distro networks. What seems unique about the service is they say they don't take percentage fees from the sales...that is - what iTunes gives them, they give you. Like all of these services, research their terms and conditions before signing up!

Music Publishing and Licensing on the Web...sorting through various thoughts

I recently posted a long article on music publishing that was inspired by the various discussions we've been having in this group (from Dubs comments especially). The basic points made in case you don't want to read the whole thing:

1) Do-it-yourself Publishing

Email campaigns for your fan base

A huge feature of any music or band website is simple contact management. You want to keep track of fans, venues, promoters, media people. The reason of course because this creates a nice way to look people up later after you meet them.

For fans, SimpleNews module works great. But it doesn't let you do targeted email campaigns, say for only fans in New York. And it can't distinguish a fan from media contact.

CiviCRM is a full blown contact management solution but is somewhat overkill and hard to use.

Module Proposal: Swapping information across music sites?

After thinking a while about Chris's post here, I'm wondering if there might be a need for a simple, one stop solution for distributed content and distributed authentication between music sites.

Here's what I mean:

Can you point me in the right direction?

Hey Everyone!

Wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully get some answers to a couple questions.

I'm a drupal newbie, however I am familiar with basic PHP, and customizing scripts. I currently have a phpnuke site @ www.street-hustle.com however I'm finding it limited. And would like to move onto something more flexible and secure. Here's my goals, if you could point me where I need to go that would be great.

I'm looking to create a Genre specific Artist Community, that offers revenue sharing through banner ads.

Primary Features wanted are:

We're almost 100! Let's set the table...

What should we do to celebrate the 100 subscriber plateau? Should we have a party? Should we work on something? Seems like the sky's the limit in terms of amazing things we can do. What sorts of things would people like to accomplish, build and/or learn? Does this group contain mainly developers? Are there a lot of artists/musicians, people in related business'? How can we use Drupal to not only distribute, but filter and recommend music and art? Are there ways that art and music can help Drupal raise awareness and/or fund development (similar to public broadcasting)?

PDX startup looking for local developers

We are building a competitive online music radio community we are hoping will be more useful to discover music than anywhere else online, however thus far Drupal has slowed down our development dramatically since converting from Perl. We have been working on the project now for 2 years. We are now based in Portland, OR.

We are finally working on a major launch of a beta working with drupal developers abroad currently. However we are looking for skilled Portland, OR based developers now to take Beta to the next level as the difficulties are mounting doing this without face to face contact.

Ingredients for a music/arts-centric newspaper or magazine style site recipe?

It seems like there are a lot of questions (and answers) regarding how to create a newspaper and/or magazine style site. I also noticed the WillieBHines just added this very helpful site recipe:
Use CCK to make a unique front page

Following his lead, I'd like to help contribute more ingredients that would ideally be mixed into a complete site recipe/install profile for a music/arts-centric newspaper/magazine style site. Having said that, here are a few examples, suggested ingredients and questions for something that could be titled 'use cck, contemplate, views, panels, and some other special ingredients to create structured sections and article pages'. Unfortunately I can't cook or write a good recipe.
