Introduction from the 909 - Interest in the Product Catalog Side of Things

First off, if "Introduction" based discussions are off-topic, I do apologize.

Im a San Berdoo Mountain user who is rather new to Drupal. Had looked at it off and on throughout the last year or so. Now I have a project that will be perfect for Drupal -- a company site with a non-buy, product catalog. I been looking around but there are so many modules it is overwhelming. Not sure where to start but I'll get the hang of it.

Anyhow, It will be a pleasure to meet all of you....er....looks outside at the snow Once my car is accessible

ecommerce product examples

Hi.

Is there a place where to find examples for common products?
I don't have any pictures yet, since I am only learning how to set things up.

btw, what happened to the availability module in ecommerce-5.x-3.4? I can't find it where it is supposed to.

"Inventory Tracking::Enable the "Availability" Module. It is in the e-Commerce Product Types section."

Many Thanks,
Jorge Nunes.

External Product database?

I have a funny feeling I am missing something important here, so perhaps I just need sufficient "clue" to get further along.

I want to be able to display our products on our Drupal site, but using the existing postgresql product data from SQL-Ledger (ie, not have to import repeatedly or run two copies of our product data).

I currently run SQL-Ledger with more than 134,000 product lines, only a few thousand of which are typically active, but any and all could be ordered in for customers on demand. We run a retail store so we have inventory control, POS, shipping etc already via SQL-Ledger.

Creating a Product with Additional Descriptive Text Fields (space for seller-defined attributes)

I'm very much hoping this isn't a feature request for 4.8... I'll just explain my situation:

I'm making a fundraising auction site for a nonprofit arts center, and really all I want to do is add some attributes for the volunteers adding items to fill out in addition to the description, that is, have a field to enter the name of the person who donated the item, and another field for the estimated market value.

I thought it would be trivial to create my own product type based on the auction module and with an extra field or two, but it has not been!

I can see many reasons to add open-ended text fields in addition to one big block for "description" to products, so I hope someone has some experience or advice.

What do we need for multiple currency?

Drupal E-Commerce module currently support for single currency only. This means all of your products can only base on a signle currency format, within DB, for customer browsing, for transaction, and also for accounting. This will be a trouble, if you hope to setup an auction system as like as eBay, or even simply hope to use Paypal module in where local currency is not support. The need of multiple currency supporting is clear.

By the way it is also a complex problem (from http://www.xencraft.com/resources/multi-currency.html) :

when redesigning the software to accommodate different or multiple currencies, the designer should be careful as to which aspects are determined either by user preference (which may in turn be indicated by locale), by regulation, by the nature of the application, or perhaps by other factors. The appropriate determining value(s) will need to be a part of the API.

subproducts module and cart problems

Hi everyone.

I'm having a problem using the subproducts module for e-commerce. Alle modules are latest CVS.

I have a shop set up that sells t-shirts. I have added variations to let the user choose color and size from a dropdown menu. This is what i'm doing:

  1. View a product with available subproducts.
  2. Choose size and color from dropdown menus.
  3. Add to cart

The problem is that only the main product is added to the cart. So the size and color variations doesn't get transfered to the cart. That makes the entire subproducts module useless ^^ If I add 3 shirts with different colors to my shipping cart I should get the following:

Products with different attributes (not so easy)?

I'm currently building a webshop that sell clothes. Before I start installing and configuring the e-commerce module I really need to understand one consept. How can I create different products with different attributes? Here's an example:

Lets's use socks as an example. Socks come in different types (sports, wool, light summer etc.). These are all separate products. However, each product come in different colors and sizes (attributes). The number of attributes on each type is not constant, for example:

Sports sock comes in

  • Medium - Black
  • Medium - White
  • Large - Black
