Should cron be run on all 3 web tiers?

I have 3 web servers connected to 1 DB server, should i run cron on all 3 web server? or run in one of them, and rsync?

I think there is a possible error running cron on 3 web as cron will try to trash and create cache in the same DB at th same time. (please correct me if it is not the case.)

Also, should the cache folder created by boost module use rysnc or NFS or let them create cache themselves?

Boost & Authcache (cacherouter memcache) for all user roles?

Using Authcache (cacherouter memcache) for all user roles, registered AND anonymous (drupal core cache of course disabled) and using Boost at the same time. APC is on server installed also, but not used with cacherouter.

Is Boost useful and doing its job under these circumstances??? Memcached daemon is acting kind of strange if boost crawler is disabled - it spikes to almost 100% cpu on pageview, page loads are high even when visiting the same page etc, RAM usage just few megs of available 128, some APC memory is also free.

Google analytics are... showing not all visitors. Can this be related to some of performance module?

Hi,

Have a site with:
-CacheRouter with db caching
-APC on the server, but not used with CacheRouter
-Boost with default-agressive settings, crowler enabled
-JS minify + gzip
-CSS gzip
-block cache module enabled
-"Normal" drupal cache
-Paged are gzipped by drupal
-GA code is in footer

-Google Analytics module was used with "cache locally" and without - but no change.

-All the internal Google Analytics indicators is showing that everything is ok, some stats is available.

-JS minify+gzip is enabled, but I clearly see the .js file, which is accesible.

Boost and IE

I have Boost installed on a few sites, and am really pleased with the huge difference it makes. But I cannot for the life of me get any version of IE to serve the cached pages.
I found in the issue queue a notice to disable RFC2616 compliance, which I have done to no effect (yes I generated new rules and changed the .htaccess).
Is there another setting to enable/disable? What else can I do? I have seen boost tags on ie before (just not my sites) so I know it is possible...
Any help is appreciated!

Tutorial for using Nginx in front of Apache and mod_php, to serve static files?

Hello all! I've been looking through this group's discussions, and am very thankful for all the help and advice. Here's my situation: I recently moved from shared hosting to a VPS (Linode.com). I'm a relatively competent with html/css/php, etc., but am fairly noobish when it comes to the whole server side of things. I can find information, and follow and adapt tutorials, but have a hard time knowing how to hack things out from scratch.

So I've set up my VPS running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) with Apache2, mysql, and php, and have my vhosts up and running with drupal. What I want to do now is set Nginx up as a static file server, leaving dynamic content to Apache and mod_php. I just haven't been able to find a comprehensive tutorial for how to do that, taking drupal into account (specifially, image_cache and boost). Basically what I'm looking for is this:

http://www.lullabot.com/articles/using-lighttpd-static-file-server

But geared towards Nginx instead of Lighttpd (because of the memory leak issues I've read about). Can anyone point me towards some good resources to help me get this set up?

Thanks a ton!

First-class support for ESI in Drupal: Lets Do It!

Over the past few days some of us have been discussing the aims and ambitions of this project:

http://drupal.org/project/esi

There are a lot of pieces to be developed to support this properly. My aim is to get something simple in place to allow blocks, regions and panels to be served out of an ESI cache. There are further ideas to build some sort of ESI-assembly into the Boost module, and to implement an intermediary cache layer between Drupal and an external ESI cache (e.g. Varnish) to prevent multiple bootstraps.

So, let's take this discussion out to the wider community!

Boost, APC stability problems and system failures

Hello,

We are having stability problems on our Drupal site. We have a dedicated server which runs mainly our Drupal site and couple of other small sites. Daily visitor is around 20.000 and around 17.000 is on Drupal and only 200-300 are registered.

We have Gainestown E5520 8 cores(running as 16 cores) CPU with 8 GB ram and fast disk configuration enough. As all can guess hardware infrastructure is well enough to manage whole work. Configuration is simply:

PHP 5.2 cgi mode
Apache 2.2.14
APC installed, MPM_WORKER
Suhosin

GitHub Project - Nginx configuration for Drupal and Aegir

There are many ways to use Nginx. With Aegir and Boost compatible configuration, without all that Aegir and Boost related stuff, with subdirectory install, compatible with Purl and Spaces, and many different modules, where some specific rewrites are required.

It is always handy to have something tested and working as default setup, but there is also room for improvements, different setups, and it seems GitHub fork feature would be useful to create and maintain different configuration examples for wider audience.

D6 Internationalization: "Domain name only," Boost, multiple servers, and subdomains

There is a separate "primary" site (in another system [NOT Drupal]), and the Drupal site has two servers with one database on one of those servers connected to both Drupal instances. Our problem is with the two Drupal servers and DNS (domain/subdomain) settings to manage them.

One instance has a minute-by-minute CRON job running to keep the other in-synch, with rsync. Only one of those servers is open to login and edit with a subdomain pointing to it directly on the network. The other server has a read-only user setup for the database connection, just as a precaution.

Looking for ideas for version 2.0 of Boost

Boost is nearing RC 3, and my estimate is the release after this will be 1.0. As such I'm looking for ideas for the next version, 2.0.
