This group is for everyone living in the DC metro area who's interested in Drupal. You can post here about anything relating to DC and Drupal, whether that's local job postings, events, or just a call out to talk shop over beers.
You can also find us in a couple of other places:
- Group on Meetup.com for events (they handle events better, with reminder emails and whatnot)
- Group on groups.drupal.org for discussions and job posts (that's here)
- #drupal-dc on freenode
- @DrupalDC on Twitter
We have a great meetup every month where we get together to connect in person. The target audience is Drupal developers, users, and people who want to learn more about Drupal. We start the meetups with a round of very focused lightning talks that discuss real world solutions to existing problems, new work people have done, and Drupal news. Some of these talks are about code, and some are not. We do ask that all presenters talk on a level that everyone - including non-developers - can follow. After the talks, we chat over beer, and maybe play a few games of foosball.
We're open to ways to improve the meetups and this group, so speak up if you have ideas!

Not 100% sure about the dates - depends on when there will be sprints and whether I fly back on the Saturday or Sunday. But this is just to get the ball rolling, as I imagine there are some other people who aren't sure but would like to save a bit.
I'm not a snorer. It happens very occasionally, so no worries unless you're super-sensitive.
Sometimes I stay up too late...so if the sound of typing or dim light is a no-go for you in terms of falling asleep, be warned.
Hit me up on my contact form to talk seriously. Or post here if not sure and I'll hit you up.

OpenGov conference in Washington, DC June 14
OpenGovDC, a one day conference looking at how open source tools can be used to advance open government, is happening in downtown DC on Tuesday, June 14. The event will focus on showing real life examples of successful open source implementations in government - many of which are from agencies like the White House, Federal Communications Commission, and Department of Education who use Drupal as a platform for their web properties.
Sessions will cover topics ranging from managing content and workflow across multiple websites and domains, to how to build and share interchangeable features between projects and agencies, to releasing open data. Drupal will be discussed throughout many of these sessions, and there will also be a hands on workshop on how to build a multi-site platform using Drupal distributions.
I thought this would be of interest to this group, especially those who work at a government agency or with government clients. You can find more information and a full schedule at OpenGovDC.com. Tickets are going fast, so if you'd like to attend I recommend signing up soon.

I am working on a custom module that requires a user reference field.
I have not had much luck finding information on this.
Please let me know if anyone has experience doing this and can point me in the right direction, or if it can be done.

Transparency Camp is coming to DC in the end of April, and we've suggested a session on creating custom maps based on the presentation we gave at Monday's Drupal meetup. If you'd be interested in seeing a hands on walk through on how to use the open source tool TileMill to design custom maps for use in websites (Drupal and otherwise) and on mobile devices at Transparency Camp, please vote for the session.
There are several Drupal-related sessions submitted too that may be of interest to folks. You can see them all here.

Hi, gang. For one of my other Drupal development pet projects, I have an access question. I have an application process that I am not quite sure how to set up. I have a fairly complex set of roles and permissions for a small group (ugh), but it is the nature of the organization. Access rules seem to be way too general in this case. The applicant can ONLY see the application form and maybe one or two other pages. (Applications should not be available to unautheticated users in this context.
Read moreNo. Virginia Meetup
We've started discussions to revive the Northern Virginia Drupal meetup. We don't want to compete with the awesome meetup in DC at Stetsons (as if we could!), but if folks want to gather elsewhere to talk about Drupal, I'm not going to discourage it!
We have some location suggestions which I will be looking into. If you have an alternate suggestion, feel free to post it here, or at the Meetup group:
http://www.meetup.com/drupal-21/
We will probably want to get a bit farther out than Arlington, (where we were previously) so we can make the trip a bit easier for those coming in.
