Washington, DC Drupalers

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This group is for everyone living in the DC metro area who's interested in Drupal. You can post here about anything relating to DC and Drupal, whether that's local job postings, events, or just a call out to talk shop over beers.

You can also find us in a couple of other places:

We have a great meetup every month where we get together to connect in person. The target audience is Drupal developers, users, and people who want to learn more about Drupal. We start the meetups with a round of very focused lightning talks that discuss real world solutions to existing problems, new work people have done, and Drupal news. Some of these talks are about code, and some are not. We do ask that all presenters talk on a level that everyone - including non-developers - can follow. After the talks, we chat over beer, and maybe play a few games of foosball.

We're open to ways to improve the meetups and this group, so speak up if you have ideas!

How is the performance of using a Macbook Air for local Drupal development?

I'm thinking about getting a Macbook Air. For any Air users out there, how is the performance of developing locally? Any problems with slow performance when working with complex Drupal sites?

Custom search results

Hi everyone

I have been messing with Drupal and other CMSs for a while (3+ years). But I chose Drupal and stack with it since then no matter how hard the learning curve was.
So far whenever I had issues either I figure it out or search Drupal.org site for any possible solutions time being sacrificed. But now I want to save time and be efficient expediting my projects getting direct help from all my groups. Most issues being discussed here are grabbing my attentions because they are very important that's why I joined so many groups.

Standard rates for developers? Or a range?

A future client for a Drupal developer (a big nonprofit, not me and not my client!) has asked me if there is a standard rate for Drupal developers working on established Drupal sites.

While I know this is a very hard question - I promised to post here and see if anyone has any info or could give this person some idea of how to justify a line item in a budget for 2012.

Thanks!

What's your process for change management for migration of very large drupal installations?

Hello everyone,

I have been "messing" with drupal for a while now, and have now taken my first job as a 100% committed Drupal developer & tech lead for a company that builds massive websites for large federal initiatives that involve dense structures, complex role management schemes, and mountains of content (often 10,000+ nodes).

So, one of my first tasks as we get started is to work with the site building team and sys admins to create a solid process for performing migrations from dev >>> staging, sometimes staging >>> dev, and, of course, the eventual staging >>> production.
