There is now a thriving Drupal community in Bristol.
Freelancers and developers from the many Drupal shops are regularly meeting up and sharing Drupal knowledge and experiences.
We're now meeting once a month, on the third Wednesday of the month.

If you haven't come along to one of the meetups yet, or haven't come along in a while please do - the more the merrier.

Drupal camp London
Hi All,
It was good to see everyone last night, we had a couple of newcomers too which is always good!
Is anyone planning on going to Drupal camp in London in March? I'm planning on going, but it would be nice to go with some farmilular faces.

Posting this up now before we all disappear for the festive season.
As suggested let's go with the 2nd Weds for January, thinking the first week back people might not be ready for a beer or two so close to NYE.
The Llandoger was a pretty good venue for recent meetups so suggest we meet there for this one too. The side room works quite well for a group of 15-20.
The Xmas meal meetup was a great evening, props to Joe for organising.

Hi All,
I have the Pro Drupal 7 Development (3rd Edition) book by John K. VanDyk for sale, I've read it a few times and it's been sat on my shelf for the past 3 months gathering dust.
Looking for £20 for it (I think I paid about £35/40 when I bought it) and I can bring it to the next meetup in January if you are a meeter.
If you want to get in touch best to email me on tommym916@googlemail.com as I check that account through the day.
Cheers
Tom

Hello,
This is the second of the new sessions and is aimed at getting Hands ON with Drupal. We all work with Drupal and have our own ways and best practices. These sessions are for sharing these best practices, to fix, learn, code, contribute back to the Drupal community and just to have a good time doing Drupal.
Today we will be setting up and working with a GIT code repository.
Please sign up via this page or the Drupal Somerset website (www.drupalsomerset.co.uk) and bring your laptop along.

Hello,
I just joined the Drupal bristol group. Been using Drupal about a year.
Has anyone got any experience hosting on VPS services such as Linode?
I have been with a couple of 'green' hosting companies and i think its time to take matters into my own hands.
I'm wondering whether someone might be able to advise me what limitations I would have with a 512mb RAM deal. Is it going to be ok serving up around 10 relatively low traffic sites?
cheers

*** New to this?
- It's a casual pub/bar based meetup of primarily people using or interested in Drupal but also with other tech skills and interests.
- If you haven't come to any tech socials before, don't worry nothing is expected of you and everyone is friendly
UK Cookie Law - are there now thousands of "illegal" Drupal 6 sites in the UK?
Drupal 6 tends to set an anonymous cookie by default. I recently did a quick check of UK sites and found many which are indeed setting cookies but don't have one of the available compliance modules installed. From my understanding of the law, the standard D6 anonymous cookie may be exempt if it could be proven that:
-
it is required for proper use of the site (probably not the case) and
-
isn't used in a way that would identify the user on returning to the site such that displayed contained would be customised for them in some way.
Do you know anyone who'd like to be a tester?
I'm looking to hire a QA tester, and although I've had some applications from people with full on computing degrees it's becoming apparent to me that perhaps someone younger without a degree might be better.
It's odd hiring at this 'first job' level for QA, since people don't really grow up thinking "I want to be a tester" so it's harder to target people than when hiring developers!

First wednesday of the month....
Now, at the elephant last month there was talk of going somewhere where the pints don't cost upwards of four quid. I think it might be time to look at a different venue.
It's pretty cheap in the mothers ruin (£2 a pint before 7 for cider and beer i think) but potentially will get noisy with live music quite early, but maybe not. And Seamus O donells is also on the same street (I really like it, but potentially a bit of a squeeze).
What does everyone think? Is it time to make the move to another venue? Options?

Hi everyone,
It was great so many people turned up last month, especially with the short notice. Hopefully some of the regulars who couldn't make it last time can this time!
We'll have it at The Elephant again unless anyone has any other suggestions? We haven't had the elephant stuffing peaks of attendance that we had a few months ago so hopefully we'll be all right

The first Wednesday of the month beckons.
I'm not actually free myself this week, I seem to recall a few people last month said the same, so I figured I'd start this thread anyway, otherwise it might sneak by with no-one else doing so :)
Please post back if any progress is made on the structured talks discussed a couple of weeks ago. Cheers.

There has been discussion of talks for sometime, I have have lost
track a little regarding expected format etc. and I know that we don't
have a venue yet.
I thought however it would be worthwhile creating somewhere where
people could offer/discuss talks that they are prepared to give.
Assuming a format of 20 - 30mins rather than lighting talks, I would
like to talk about the the possibly changing significance of Views in

The title would probably be something along the lines of Views vs

It's very last minute, but, as has been stated, there may have enough momentum for people to have safely assumed that the first Wednesday of the month means Drupal-dot-beer in Bristol? :D
As I've already cleared it with the missus, I am going to pop along to the Elephant after work and loiter in the usual corner (I don't think fears of over-spilling will be a problem this week).
I'd love to chat to someone about Services 3 (and web services in general) and would be willing to buy a pint or two in exchange for knowledge..
