Bristol and The West, UK

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

There is now a thriving Drupal community in Bristol.

Freelancers and developers from the many Drupal shops are regularly meeting up and sharing Drupal knowledge and experiences.

We're now meeting once a month, on the third Wednesday of the month.

If you haven't come along to one of the meetups yet, or haven't come along in a while please do - the more the merrier.

A good solution for a document management system

I'm looking to build a document mangement system that will hold ~5000 files amounting to about 80GB of storage. Has anyone got any recommendations for a suitable approach using Drupal?

Currently I've tried a few things...

  1. The document module, https://drupal.org/project/document
This doesn't appear to offer you much more than doing it yourself

  2. Filedepot. https://drupal.org/project/filedepot

Test automation

Hi, I have been asked to look at test automation for our Drupal 7 projects. I seem to remember from discussions over beers at the few meetups I've been to that some of you in this group may know a lot more than me about this topic. I've used Simpletest and written tests for modules but our aim is to work towards having a full regression test suite.

Any pointers welcome.

Cheers, Alfred

In the meantime, we need to sort out some talks. Anyone like to volunteer?

May Meetup

Start:
2013-05-01 18:00 - 21:00 UTC
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

So, the April meetup went pretty well, I thought. Let's have another one!

Despite the "function room" at The Golden Guinea being more of a "function cellar", I thought it worked alright. Hopefully it'll be warmer by May ;)

I've still got Jamie lined up to talk about CI, but if there's someone else who'd like to step up and give a talk on another subject too, that'd be great - please volunteer in the comments.

April meetup proposal

Hi all,

Last night was my first night back to the group for a while (after living in South Wales for a couple of years, I'm back living in Bristol now) - was good to catch up with some people I haven't seen in a while and meet some new ones.

I was wondering how people felt about changing the format of the meetups a bit, to have a couple of short talks (or maybe a longer one), and then a social bit after?

This might require a new venue, so we can have a room and a projector, but I'm hoping we can keep it in a pub still.

    February Meetup

    Start:
    2013-02-06 18:00 - 22:00 Europe/London
    Event type:
    User group meeting

    Hey all,

It's that regular beer and Drupal night, seems like the Llandoger is the favoured venue at the moment so let's stick with that unless anyone would like to suggest an alternative.

I'd be keen to hear what people would like to get out of these meetups (other than drinking beer and Drupal chat) and whether we could do some more learning/knowledge sharing type activities. We've attempted presentations and stuff before but maybe something easier and simple to prepare would be more suitable, perhaps a topic or theme for the night?

Anyone using Maestro for workflow applications?

I am looking at replacing some internal applications with Drupal and require workflow elements unrelated to publishing content. This seems to be what Maestro brings to the table but it is unclear whether to use a custom form, a content type or a Webform. Does anyone have any experience of this module they'd care to share?

Many thanks in advance - looking forward to introducing myself at the next meetup!

High traffic Drupal Forum example sites?

Anbody know of examples of sites hosting large Forums on Drupal especially Drupal 7?

Granted Drupal may not be the initial first choice for a Forum, but tightly integrated with other aspect of the CMS etc. there are potential advantages.

Besides I am currently looking at a very large forum implemented on a site in Drupal 6. It is struggling but for many reasons not directly related to what it set out to achieve (infrastructure a major culprit).

Exposing field values from a content type into a search field

    Hi
I'm working on a site in D7 for an estate agent which uses view with exposed filters to create a site wide search.

One of the fields in my search is for location, searching across the various town entered in each property. What I'm am trying to do is to automatically populate the location field in my search as a select list from the unique values entered in the property content type so that we only allow searching on locations that have properties within them.
