Drupal And Git

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

How long have you been intending to learn Git?

Drupal.org is upgrading to Git, so sooner or later you're going to need to dive into Git anyway.

Why not get started learning Git now?

This group is dedicated to helping Drupal developers learn about Git, discuss Drupal specific Git workflow and tips, and provide group support for migrating away from your existing SVN/CVS/etc systems.

Note: This group is not related to the official Drupal.org Git upgrade project. It's a forum for Drupal developers who are trying to migrate their own systems to Git.

Note: See here for a master list of resources

Drupal Dojo Session: In a Drupal land, not so far away, where CVS is gone...

Start:
2010-12-14 12:30 - 13:30 America/New_York
Organizers:
Event type:
Online meeting (eg. IRC meeting)

Very soon, Drupal will bid a fond (ha!) farewell to CVS, and git will step up to the collective plate. In this session, I'll run through what differences you can expect to see on launch day, what changes are further down the road, and talk a bit about how I think git might change Drupal's community workflows right away.

I might get into basic git instructions, but don't count on it :)

Project tracking system similar to TRAC compatible with GIT

In the book Leveraging Drupal Victor Kane proposes using Subversion for version control and Trac as tracking system, since both are compatible and work fine together.

Now that Drupal will adopt Git for version control, does anyone know if Trac is compatible with Git? And anyway, does anyone know a good tracking system compatible with Git?

Thanks and regards.

Ice Cream and Git and Drupal, too, at J.P. Licks, Jamaica Plain: Wed.

Start:
2010-09-15 18:15 - 23:55 America/New_York
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

For heather's birthday, let's Git it together! Wednesday evening.

The theme is Git, and we will attempt to conduct our humble café in the world-renowned Drupal Dojo style. J.P. Licks is not the best location for trying to put anything on a screen (like a dojo video), but we can gather around our laptops. We always manage to secure a good two-to-four tables for our mob.

Drupal Repositories and HG-Git

Greetings,

Our lab will likely be using Mercurial for internal work in the future. As we most likely don't want to require our researchers to learn both Mercurial and Git, we were considering using the Hg-Git plugin to interact with the Drupal repositories. For those who don't know, Hg-Git is a Mercurial plugin that allows a person to push and pull from Git repositories.

Does this group have an opinion of this plugin, specifically with regard to the Drupal repositories? Is it discouraged or encouraged in any way?

Thank you,
OPL

Please add links and resources here as you find them on the web or publish them on your own blog

Please note that there is one page on drupal.org with the same propose: Other Git resources, so maybe is a better idea to update that page. (no comments enabled, so I needed to do this at edit)

This page is a collection of information to help Drupalers use Git.

Stop Gap

For those who are still stuck with Subversion but would like to be using Git, I wrote an article recently about using git-svn.

Migrating from SVN to Git

Joshua Jabbour gave a great session on using the Git distributed version control system at Drupal Camp NYC 8. I was able to come home, download the source for Git, and easily build it on my laptop. I'd just started a new drupal project, and hadn't moved it into svn yet, so I easily created a git repostitory for the project. In fact, it was so easy I really wanted to move all my projects into git and chuck svn.
