This group is a place for gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer/intersex Drupal community members and their allies to communicate with one another, collaborate together, and help get new members involved.
We aim to:
- provide a nice welcome mat to other LGBTQI in the Drupal community that "we're here!"
- provide a place to coordinate larger outreach into the non-Drupal-using (yet) LGBTQI community.
- provide a "social" place for talking about LGBTQI issues and their relation to technology, employment in our field, interesting community opportunities, etc.
- provide a "safe space" to have the sorts of "meta" community-impacting discussions, like gender, that tend to get ugly and heated when they're brought up in the issue queue with people who aren't as sensitive to them.

Hi Friends, I am sad that I will be out of town and unable to attend our big NYC Camp on Dec 10th 2011.
However, I would like to help organize some visibility there, maybe have our stickers out... maybe organize a little get together somewhere for that night?
Any NYC Rainbows interested in doing that?

Anybody coming to DrupalCon London?
Any LGBT developers in London to work on urgent sexual rights-based project?
I work for the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and a colleague of mine, Daniel McCartney is running an urgent project to design and build a Drupal website about a new award within the sexual and reproductive health community. The award will be presented annually to an individual who demonstrates courage and outstanding leadership in advocating for the sexual rights of sexual and gender minorities, particularly in environments where these individuals face continued rejection, marginalization, isolation and persecution.

Just wanted to pass along two really useful discussions I saw recently on this topic:
Randall Munroe (of the xkcd webcomic) on Google Plus's gender fields:
https://plus.google.com/111588569124648292310/posts/SeBqgN9Zoiu
Google+ forces you to have a public gender in your profile (although it can be 'Other'). I know they have reasons for this, but I don't think they're good enough.
Luke Wroblewski on Backcheck.com's use of a pronoun field instead of a gender field:

Need Coding Help
I'm helping Bill91750 with his Inland Empire site and running into some issues that probably need some custom code. We are using Drupal 7 and loving it!
- Age: The user profile needs to have an age calculated from a DOB. Using the Computed Field module however, in order to use in Views, you need to save it to the database. This then prevents it from being updated unless you re-save the node. We also want to be able to search on an age range for users. What would be the best way to calculate the age on the fly and be able to use that data in a View or search?
New York Senate
Tuning in to nysenate.gov to watch the live stream of the vote on same-sex marriage last night, I got this message:

Any other Drupalers planning to watch one of the world's biggest Pride parades with one of the largest regional Drupal communities? I'll be watching from the southern side of Market around New Montgomery (a few blocks away from the Pantheon and Chapter Three offices at Beale and Folsom). Google has a standard to beat this year with the great Android Pride shirts from 2010. :-)

Seeking Drupal Themer for national nonprofit LGBTQA student society (oSTEM.org)
Hey all,
I'm new to the group -- someone here at Yale suggested I sign up. I thought I'd hit up the group and see if there is any interest in helping a relatively new nonprofit LGBTQA student group get off the ground?
The 501(c)(3) nonprofit I run is called oSTEM or "Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics." We have 22 chapters and have been looking for a Drupal themer for a while now. Please visit the current site at www.ostem.org

Although contemporary American society has seen changes in attitudes and beliefs regarding gay male, lesbian and transgender individuals, definitions of what it means to be gay/queer are still predominately and unconsciously negative based – defined by what we are not.

Over at http://groups.drupal.org/comment/reply/140679/470949#comment-470949, Pistachio Pony asked some good questions that I thought probably deserved wider attention/response:
- why was the group created?
- what will the group be doing?
- how does drupal fit into this?
I thought it would be cool to get other peoples' thoughts on this, as well. Here's my 2 cents as a member of this group.

Hi Everyone,
I wonder if anyone here might be willing to offer me a bit of technical advice.
A couple of nights ago, I had a call from a friend who started a campaign called Refuse To Lie. It's about married same-sex couples in the U.S. filing their taxes as Married rather than Single as required by the IRS.
