How to modify this CPU intensive query
Over and over again mysql slow quries log this query taking a long time.
SELECT DISTINCT COUNT(DISTINCT(n.nid)) FROM main_node n LEFT JOIN main_comments c ON n.nid = c.nid AND (c.status = 0 OR c.status IS

Should cron be run on all 3 web tiers?
I have 3 web servers connected to 1 DB server, should i run cron on all 3 web server? or run in one of them, and rsync?
I think there is a possible error running cron on 3 web as cron will try to trash and create cache in the same DB at th same time. (please correct me if it is not the case.)
Also, should the cache folder created by boost module use rysnc or NFS or let them create cache themselves?
Read moreStability of APC and MySQL
I recently attended Kalid's discussions about the mega-server running 2.8 million pageviews a day at Drupalcon, and it was an awesome eye-opener. Thanks for doing that sir, I learned a lot about what I can be doing better.
I have since installed APC on my system, and the speed difference is unreal. I am running AuthCache using APC for authenticated caching.

After reading djudd's post, I went and found the video of kbahey's drupalcon session. Great stuff!
It was mentioned to set tables to innodb if they are experiencing locks. How do I monitor for locks?
Read moreAwesome performance on a cheap VPS
Aside from being a developer, I also am in charge of managing the web server for our company. The "server" in this case is actually a relatively cheap VPS hosting account - US$30 a month. Currently, it hosts over fifty Drupal sites in a multisite configuration, and it's pretty dang performant, if I say so myself; responding faster than most shared hosting services, and most sites on it easily score 90 or higher on YSlow (with points mostly taken off for not hosting images and stuff on a CDN). I'll share some of the things I've discovered working on this server, and hopefully others can offer their tips as well.
Read moreFast and powerful servers, but slow site
Hi!
We recently launched a new website with drupal and to avoid the site to often break, we decided to buy to servers. One who handles http requests, and the other where all queries occur.
We thought it would be easy, but the site is offline every our (almost when the cache is flush). Additionnaly, the site cannot handle more than users ( we consider a user is connected if his access time is lower than to 500s).
Here are the specs of our servers:
On the both servers, we have 16 cpus - Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU - , and each has 2.27GHz speed.
Ram is at 12Go on both servers too.
Securepages and Mercury
Has anybody successfully enabled SSL using Project Mercury? SSL is working on my server for sure, however, when I go to the secure pages admin in drupal the "enable secure pages" radios are greyed out and when I go to the "go here" link in this sentence:
"To start using secure pages this setting must be enabled. This setting will only be able to changed when the web server has been configured for SSL.
If this test has failed then go here"
the page gets an error 404.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Mike
Read moreredeclare db_status_report()
I hate to post petty stuff like this, but seems like this error is somehow related to Panthon/Pressflow setup and it's a pretty bad error.
My site is up and running fine, however, when I try to run cron, I get the following:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare db_status_report() (previously declared in /var/www/mysite/subdomains/dev2/httpdocs/includes/database.mysqli.inc:23) in /var/www/mysite/subdomains/dev2/httpdocs/includes/database.mysql.inc on line 36Same thing from drush.

I have a VPS site running Virtuzzo with Blacknight. Unlike Alan who also had VPS problems with Blacknight and on a similar spec-ed machine, the server isn't grinding to a halt and the server load rarely goes above 2 or 3. The site is going live this week but the performance is very poor, and no matter what I try I can't seem to improve things much.
Read moreSingle Server Config for performance
Most of the conversation I hear about performance includes, Load Balancers, MySQL Database servers, Clusters, etc.
It just seems like Vanilla Ubuntu/Apache/MySQL/PHP isn't very optimized at all.
I would like to see what your opinions are for single server configurations.
