Friday's schedule

Hey Jason, I don’t know what you have planned for Friday’s meeting, but if you have time I would like 20-30 minutes for a show-n-tell and to talk about a couple areas where I need some assistance.

Account Registration and Profiles on dug.lv

Even though we are using a CAPTCHA on this site, we are still getting a few fake signups of new users. I'm thinking we need a few quick questions about who the person is that is registering as a way that will provide some content that will feed into our profiles. Collecting this info on registration will help admins filter the fake accounts.

Anyone interested in building this feature? If so, please comment here. What questions and fields should we have?

I was thinking: Real Name, drupal.org name, personal/business website

What else, Thoughts?

LVDUG web site theme

On the LVDUG sandbox web site, members are encouraged to contribute a custom theme. Even though I am not a designer, I created a simple Drupal 7 theme that the group can use for the web site if we so choose. The theme is currently available on my web site. I have no plans to try to submit it to Drupal.org and have it approved or hosted there.

What state do you usually hold your meetings? I know this is a Las Vegas group but I keep seeing Los Angelas everywhere...

Future Development on http://dug.lv

Hey all, I've been caught up on the most recent discussions at our last meeting. I regret that I could not be there, but think I can make arrangements to be at the next one as it may shape up to be quite productive.

Drupal Camp Phoenix

Drupal Camp Phoenix is rapidly approaching. It was scheduled for November 12 at a cost of $6.00 for early registration and $10.00 at the door, but that just changed. Thanks to Acquia, the cost is now free and there will also be a day of free training on the 13th. Go to the website and register to attend.

Second monthly meeting canceled until further notice

The location we have been using for our second monthly meeting (The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) has started charging $100 a meeting for the use of their room (due to an increased demand). While I do not begrudge them for doing it, and am grateful we were able to use it in the past, I cannot afford the cost. So, until something better comes along, I am canceling those meetings.

Only the first monthly meetings were on the calendar, so it didn't change.

Help with a Node Reference problem

I have been working on a problem that has me stumped. Let me give you the structure so you can understand what I am trying to do. I am talking about a-thons, so once an a-thon is created an individual must “join” that a-thon in order to participate. I do that with a Node Reference link on the a-thon page. Clicking on the “Join this a-thon” link creates a “join” record which is linked to a-thon and to the participant as the author. No problem here, that is working fine.

Is BADCamp 2011 the largest FREE Drupal event in the world?

Absolutely, and it's exciting! BADcamp 2011 had over 500 people register in the first week alone. Currently over 860 people have registered, we're six weeks away, and rumor has it there's enough space for many more.

A possible path forward

Our group is not focused and not very productive. I don’t feel like we are getting a lot of lasting value out of the presentations, they are too passive. We need to engage the group members and get our hands dirty as that is the only way to really learn. I suggest that we structure the group like an ongoing training camp, with emphasis on collaboration.
