Mid-Atlantic USA

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Welome to the Mid-Atlantic, USA Drupal group! Our goal is to bring together Drupallers who live and/or work in the areas between DC and NYC, including (but not limited to) Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and surrounding communities. Members of this group should be people who would consider coming together in person with other drupallers in this region-- for fun, work, camps, etc.

blockquote>UNICEF, the world's leading children's organization will be holding an open Storytelling Jam and Hackathon from Friday March 28 through Sunday March 30. The three-day event will be hosted at UNICEF's headquarters in Manhattan, NY.

The focus of this event is to build and implement free and open-source tools for collecting stories, as well as gathering and spreading the stories themselves. Work will be done on a variety of platforms, from mobile phones to the One Laptop per Child's XO machine.

UNICEF is inviting software and hardware experts of all types to create tools that enable young people to capture and share their stories on various hardware devices including the XO. UNICEF's Youth Section has been actively involved in developing various projects in this area, including a radio station on a USB stick, software to allow people to access web pages through SMS / Text messages, and ways to capture the voices of young people through their mobile phones. Developers will be working in groups to either extend existing programs or create new ones. Check the projects page to see a list of proposed projects or propose one of your own. In addition to a viewing for the attendees on Sunday the 30th, Monday the 31st will feature a public viewing at UNICEF HQ where work from the weekend will be displayed and visitors will be able to record their stories.

Module Question

Hi Drupalers.

Not sure if Drupal groups is intended to ask drupal related questions, so feel free to put me in my place if I'm breaking the rules.

Just wondering if anyone is aware of a module that would tell a registered user, and/or redirect them, to the last page they accessed the last time they were logged in?

This is for a client using the book module as an online course, so it's intended for those who don't complete the course in one sitting -- so when they come back next time they will know where they left off.

Late March/Early April Drupal meetup

Hey,

The next PHP meetup isn't until April 29th - it's going to be an educational event and should be a pretty good one -- the topic is testing, which will become increasingly important to Drupal as well.

But in the meantime we should do a more Drupal-focussed event. In the past there's been requests for more collaborative, educational kinds of meetups. Who's got some ideas?

  • 2-3 people doing Show 'n Tell of sites they've done recently
  • 1-2 people walking through the code of a module they've built
  • skip the planning and do an "un-meetup" and let a few people lead small-group discussions

Anyone else?

Meetup @ National Mechanics

Start:
2008-03-11 19:00 - 21:30 US/Eastern
Event type:
User group meeting

We're planning another social for the month of March -- returning to National Mechanics for some beers and burgers. First of all, a bunch of people will be returning from Drupalcon Boston and will no doubt have interesting things to say about the state and future of Drupal. Secondly, I'd like to further the planning of an April PHP Meetup educational event on the use of tests in PHP -- unit tests, test driven development, etc. We have two potential speakers at this point, might be looking for one additional.

PHP Security Event

Start:
2008-02-19 18:00 - 20:00 America/New_York
Event type:
User group meeting

So I wasn't able to muster a Drupal Group event for this month. We were planning a PHP Meetup social, but just found out there's a presentation by the Open Web Application Security Project taking place the same night (Tues Feb 19) at Drexel. The topic is developing and deploying secure PHP apps, so the PHP Meetup kids are going to attend that event. Details are below. All are certainly welcome and I'm sure there will be plenty of info useful to Drupal developers as well. And afterwards we'll head over to Mad Mex for some beer and burritos.

Next month, a number of us are heading to Boston for Drupalcon '08. I thought for a local event towards the end of March we could have some of the folks who went talk about what they learned and what they saw that was cool -- really, just a big roundtable discussion kicked off by some of the sessions and lessons from Drupalcon. Still working on a date and location for that.

Anyway I hope to see some of you at the event on Tuesday the 19th, and I know I'll see some of you in Boston!

Nate.

Lullabot Podcast about IncBizNet.com and FastCompany.com

For those of you interested in learning more about the Drupal sites and social networks that we're launching at Mansueto Digital, which I discussed briefly at last night's NY group meetup, the Lullabot podcast and interview with our president, Ed Sussman, just went live.

They cover a range of topics like why we chose Drupal, some of the firms we're working with to launch the sites, and our experience with Drupal thus far. Jeff Eaton and James Walker were also on hand to address some of the technical details of the sites like our custom modules, OG implementation, etc.

My Landscaping Ideas Passion and Drupal

Hi to all! I'm using Drupal 4.7.X platform on one of the landscaping ideas sites as a gardening tips section (actually, I like the easiness of using Drupal to add small articles to this section). I saw 5.2 is now available where some problems are fixed concerning security vulnerabilities.

Is it still OK if I use 4.7 or upgrading is needed?

Join us on October 25th for an introduction to Open Source web application frameworks. Moved to Harrisburg

I've just moved to Harrisburg, PA. I work as a developer with Advomatic. Recent projects of mine: Views Slideshow, Embedded Media Field, Drupal FTP, and RPG. Some of my personal sites are Drupal RGP, Drupal Hub (demo for Embedded Media Field and Views Slideshow), and Spindowners (an upcoming web-based rpg).

I would've cross-posted this with the post I submitted to the Philly group, but not sure of the crossover of these two groups. Looking forward to being active here!
