Following up on this the issue for the creation of this Video AND Doc (http://drupal.org/node/995326)

Why don't we pool ideas here and pull together an outline? Unless someone wants to dive in and just present it....

NOTE: We'll use this doc as a wiki to collaborate on content development and then pull this back to the issue when we have it together.

There are a number of resources below regarding the issue queue.

It sounds like there are several tasks associated with this issue:

Potential Tasks

  • Review existing documentation (see sources below)
  • Create new issues for revision of any outdated issue queue documentation
  • Determine if this issue (http://drupal.org/node/995326) and task here are to focus on general use of the issue queue OR on the Documentation Groups use of the issue queue.

The following assumes it is a new doc on the use of the issue queue that is not specific to the Documentation project.

Outline Ideas

  • What is the issue queue?
  • Why is the issue queue important?
  • How to find the issue queue that is specific to Documentation (or other projects)?
  • How To file an issue in the issue queue - Simple Steps
  • Updating your issues
  • Best Practices for filing issues
  • Getting Help with issues
  • Getting Help with the issue queue
  • Monitoring 'my issues'
  • Managing my projects using the issue queue
  • The issue queue and project releases

Comments

Some potential stuff to start with:

This is my writeup on how to get help in the Views queue. http://drupal.org/node/571990 - It's reasonably specific to Views, but could likely be abstracted in combination with some of the other pages we have available.

jhodgdon pointed out these pages in irc:
http://drupal.org/node/24565 explains how to file a good doc issue report, but it isn't in the "how to contribute" section directly
http://drupal.org/node/302146 suggests browsing the queue but doesn't explain how

If we absolutely have to have

If we absolutely have to have a video, please remember to keep introduction to a minimum and avoid waffle! Nearly every screencast or video I watch has at least 30 seconds at the start of pointless 'Hey this is my awesome video'... :/

Please see the Drupal Dojo webinar "Contributing to Drupal via the Issue Queues" presented by Jennifer Hodgdon on 2/9/2011: http://drupaldojo.com/session/contributing-drupal-issue-queues

Description (cross post):
The Drupal project uses "issue queues" to discuss problems and proposed new features for Drupal core, documentation, and contributed projects. In this presentation, I'll show you the basics of how to report an issue or propose a new feature, how to participate in discussions, the etiquette of reports and responses, and some tips on how to get your proposals accepted.

Jennifer Hodgdon (jhodgdon) is a leader of the D.O. documentation team.
