An Alpha 2 distribution of ELMS was released today. The most notable feature is that it's completely different in every way. No but seriously, it's no longer dependent on a multi-site architecture and instead is now running off of Organic groups.
In plain english -- It's really easy to install now.
It's a total user experience (UX) overhaul of everything that has gone into the ELMS initiative over the last three years so I highly recommend checking it out. It's still not production ready but it's pretty darn-close at this point (needs automated methods of authenticating students / instructors being the biggie).
Some key features:
* Create new courses based off of pre-set outlines / previously made courses
* Courses come with a theme, customizable navigation settings, office hours area, student roster, instructor roster, Bookmarking, FAQ (still needs work), homepage, floating navigation and other goodies "out of the box"
* Design / Edit course outlines at any level of the course (not just the top level course outline)
* "Would you like to continue where you left off" message for students / staff when they come back to the course homepage
* Stats about number of students and pieces of content per course
* Ability to group course listings by department / college
* Tons of UX optimization and workflow streaming to attempt to remove the 'feeling of drupal' from the product
For the most part as you'll see in the tutorial this is ready to go right after install but as always if there are any problems please let me know! I got a lot of feedback about the first one so I look forward to anything the community can throw my way. Special thanks to Kyle and Bill for influencing my rationale on some critical module selections.

other modules?
Hi,
Do quiz and gradebook play nicely with ELMS? Anyone tried them with ELMS?
Thanks!

don't see why not but wait
I don't see why they would cause any issue. Alpha 5 is coming out tomorrow, I'd wait for that and try. I saw a gradebook og integration module, might want to try that out with it. A5 is basically an atrium core module set with features and organizational structure that is educational based. Let me know if you get a chance to try those modules out in a5, I've had questions about using them in elms in the past and haven't had time to fully investigate.
