At Drupalcon? Join us Thursday 12-1PM in the Erie meeting room for Revolutionary Drupal: Coding and Supporting Social Change
Technology doesn't drive social change, but it is one tool used -- from the streets of revolutionary Cairo to community organizers in Detroit. Can we help support these social change movements with Drupal? Are there ways we can code and structure Drupal projects to make them more useful to activists? Does Drupal have a role in protests and strategic direct action?
This session will be an open discussion for those working around social change, case studies of using Drupal, and brainstorming for ways we could collaborate or support Drupal projects that support social change.
This won't be as much about building nonprofit sites in Drupal (BoF for that on Wednesday) or online advocacy (BoF for that on Wednesday too).
Drupal has been part of social change movements, including acting as the platform for the U.S. Social Forum and World Social Forum, having an Indymedia distribution, and running a platform for human rights videos and field documentation at WITNESS' The Hub. What other examples can we come up with? Can Drupal be used in direct action/protest-support initiatives like Sukey.org? What else can we do with Drupal?

Next Steps
Was a great meeting about online advocacy, now how do we take this further?
The call for joint action to develop an advocacy tool for Drupal 7 that suits all of our needs is critical to stop the splintering of initiatives that we saw in D5 & D6. I'm willing to post that we will not be producing a D7 version of http://drupal.org/project/connect in favour of a new, yet unnamed joint project. Would like to see other shops & NPO's to make a similar, public declaration of support for this initiative.

Vozmob
Wasn't @DrupalCon but boy is this a BoF that's right up my alley! Had I been there, I would've shared the great work of the www.vozmob.net crew. Wonderful project I heard about a couple years back that's truly an inspiration to idealistic, do-gooders like me. I just announced that I'm joining the Vozmob crew so I'm very honored & humbled to be a contributor to this project.
I'm sure there's tons more out there that are similar. I'd love to hear about more! Peace & well-met fellow Drupaleros-For-Good. ;)
