What is the most recommended solution for someone who wants to go live right now but prepare for the future?

May I ask: For a developer who wants a live (D7) site, can they theoretically use audiofield, video, and any one of the image modules to let users attach and display rich media in posts now while reasonably expecting a future path to integration with the media module? - I want users to be able to add audio, video, or images in whatever format and then presented to the site viewers. I'm confused as to whether media can do any of this now. I would also like to have them transcoded to mp3 or h.264 but I don't believe this is possible at this moment correct?

What I have started with is the media module, the wysiwyg module with inline insertion button, and the mediaelement module but I see such a robust offering from the video module and I see ffmpeg conversion from the audiofield module that I am reluctant to start on the path of using media, especially if it is going to be a buggy road? I'm looking for any recommendations.

I forgot to say that inline or button insertion using ckeditor is my most desired part of the equation, which is what attracted me to the media module/WYSIWYG combo in the first place.

hi rubenk, since you already

hi rubenk, since you already have explored many alternatives, let me add one more module that you might want to consider: MediaFront. In a presentation given recently, Travis Tidwell talks about separating media handling from presentation and I believe that is good way to approach media in Drupal.

sharing my experience with the Media module, I can tell that, even though my requirements were not similar to yours, I've struggled with the module more than expected. nevertheless, as many others, I do believe that Media is the right way to go, not to mention that it has been put to the test on projects like Drupal Gardens with positive results. that's why I chose Media over the alternatives. that's why I plan to contribute to the project when the time comes. meanwhile, taking the approach proposed by Travis might solve the current problems while staying in good position for the future.

interesting front end. together with the derivatives module, this would create a nice video (and audio) solution.
