I really find it annoying in Drupal that the "Read more" link gets lost in between all the other links at the end of a nodes teaser. "Read more" should really be inline at the end of the paragraph so users can easily find them. There's an issue about getting this into Drupal 7 and as you'll see it's at an interesting part of the discussions where I'd like to hear from some other Drupalers and see if we can rally support for such an important usability improvement http://drupal.org/node/16161

I'm constantly theming teasers in precisely the manner you describe, so it just makes sense that if the change were made in core, it would be better for me.

It could also be slimmed to "More..."
The "Read" piece is redundant.
(i.e. you're already reading [the teaser and the link]; duh!)
and if there's mostly graphical content below the fold, perhaps not even factually correct. but there will always be "More..."
