CMS not social learning tool
Their tool seems content-centric not people-centric which is a major fail imho for websites designed to help students learn. It's more important to connect people to people than people to content. Looking at their case studies, the "social networking" aspects of their software seems more like marketing glitter than an integral part of their software as each of the case studies emphasize how OmniUpdate helps them better manage their content through typical CMS tools (in-browser editing, workflow, etc.) but none mention the social networking tools mentioned on the front page. So either the social networking part (where Drupal excels) is very new so there's no case studies yet, or it's glitter.
So it seems OmniUpdate is a JACCMS (just another commercial CMS) that focuses on the educational market.
Learn Objects Inc. seems to offer a stronger "social networking for learning" package. I know my University (BYU) is doing a trial with them this semester.
