Hi everybody

We're trying to import images into nodes. And right now we're trying out two approaches.

1.
Ftp'ing images into files-dir, and passing the filname to a CCK textfield using node_save.
In the nodetemplate, we customize the field to show up in an img-tag.
This works, but it means that we cannot use imagecache, which would be really nice

2.
Ftp'ing images into files-dir, and passing the filname to a CCK imagefield using node_save.
This however seems to be impossible (?!). Does the CCK imagefield require an image to be uploaded? Or is it possible use images already on the server?

Do any of you have some thoughts on this?

Hi, We've been using

Hi,

We've been using image_pub module to do the job. Had to hack it a little bit to make it work with categories, but it makes use of the Windows XP wizard (that provides automatic resizing), and allows us to organize the imported images into image galleries.

Thank you for your reply!

Using image_pub you only have a fixed amount of image sizes, right?

The cool thing about imagecache (if I could get it to work) seems to be, that you can create new crops and resizes on the fly.

But since I cant get imagecache to work, it might be an idea.

Apache config trouble

johsw@drupal.org's picture

I tried it. But when I apply the apache setting they describe, my site breaks. It wont show anything but a 404.

I think later on, I'll try in another server environment.

Clean URLs or the files permissions breaks the site?

Are you talking about the clean urls or the ability to upload files?

image_cache module

Yeah, as I recall the tutorial has some pretty stringent requirements to work, I think they are listed at the top of the tutorial if I am not mistaken.

Works now

After trying a bunch of different server settings I got imagecache to work now. It's really cool.

In order to make it work with images that have been ftp'ed and not uploaded, I think I'm gonna use a normal CCK text field instead of an imagefield. Or do any of you know how to import into an imagefield?

TinyMCE IMCE combo

kreynen's picture

ufku helped me hack his module to automatically create several image sizes for every image uploaded.

http://drupal.org/node/117349

I went on to change replace the automatic _0, _1, _2 filenaming to _icon, _thumb, _small, etc.

I can then replace images with the smaller version when necessary.
