Drupal Dojo at OSCMS

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Just a quick note for everyone: the Dojo has a couple of events around the upcoming OSCMS Summit next week in Sunnyvale California. We have a session scheduled for Friday afternoon which I will lead:

http://2007.oscms-summit.org/node/206

This will cover the brief history of the Dojo, and talk a bit about where it's going, but the focus will be on how the model and technology stack can be replicated by other groups. This session is intended for the general public, and while I'd love help presenting and explaining our group (leave me a comment if you're interested in that), if you'd rather check out some of the other great sessions going on at the same time, they're likely to have more new information for you.

For the Dojo Faithful, I'm also organizing a BoF (Birds of a Feather) gathering on Thursday after the scheduled sessions wrap up:

The location is TBA. I'll try to find a good place to have a happy hour from 6 to 7 or so. Very likely what will happen is we'll all meet at some spot on the Yahoo Campus, and take it from there.

Learing from others

Additionally,
I trust you (and the Dojo Team) will have interaction with other communities and how knowledge is transfered.

-- some thoughts --

  • Has anything like this been done in your community?
  • What methods or technologies are used to transfer knowledge?
  • SoC-DDS == Summer of Code - Drupal Dojo Style, Josh and others take on one/two apprentices and work on a very specific Drupalish task/module/documentation/project/something-for-the-community. Said apprentices then Teach a class on what was learned.
  • Do you have any success stories?
  • Do you find that meeting face to face transfers knowledge better/faster/slower/does not matter?

Searching Google for "transfer knowledge dojo" (we were listed 2nd for Lesson 1) w00t!
I found this :

Coding Dojo:
http://www.itvidya.com/codingdojo

A coding dojo is an exercise that brings the element of practice to programming. It is usually conducted for a group of 8 – 16 people in a room with one computer and a projector. Participants are welcome to bring their laptops to research during the session, but the programming happens on one computer.

We do this via VNC....but thought the link was interesting....

ok... my thoughts have now eneded (for now)

I will be broadcasting dojo style

My talk on Drupal search will be going out dojo style (VNC and SkypeCast). My hope is that there will be an IRC room for each physical room at OSCMS so that anyone not there can at least tune in to the chatter.

I will be at work and can't

I will be at work and can't join the live VNC/SkypeCast. Is there any plan to record and publish the video for later view? It'd be great if we could access to other presentations as well, if not video maybe slides at least? I am really interested in some topics and it's a pity can't make it this time.

Will capture and publish as much as possible

Plus, the topic I'm presenting is already bursting out of the meager time limits, and the more I prepare it, the more it is clear that I'm going to have to publish most of the stuff later, probably on Lullabot.com.
