Drupal meet-up in Sligo in September
I'm getting a few emails from people who are Drupal-curious in and around Sligo/Leitrim area. I'd like to plan a meet-up for Drupal in September.
Anyone want to come for either a day or evening meet-up in September?
We could get a space in the IT and have a screen to work with.
I could report back after the DrupalCon, and share any bumpf I pick up. I could also do a quick demo.
Anyone else want to prepare a demo? or maybe come to find out more?
Read moreSelling PDF with Ubercart + Drupal 6
Hi All,
Does anyone know if its possible to sell a PDF from Ubercart (Drupal 6)
I have just set up a store and all is functioning correctly for the sale of normal products, but I cant seem to find an option for this out of the box. Does anyone else know of a solution for this that plugs into ubercart?
Basically, I need to be able to upload an image of the PDF front page, and when user pays with paypal, they get an email with the link to download the PDF from the files directory.

This is a review I did about six weeks ago but havn't had a chance to load it till now. You can read the general review or help us all even further by responding to some of the criticisms in the detailed review especially if you are familiar with Drupal and the book!

Does Drupal Need a Push in Ireland
I have a question regarding the uptake of Drupal in Ireland. It seems (IMHO) that there is no significant awareness of Drupal as a platform in Ireland. Obviously the members of this group are aware of the benefits of the platform but in honesty is the business community / IT community at large aware of the Drupal name and the many benefits that can be leveraged from using it.
I was considering setting up http://www.drupal.ie as a place to promote Drupal in Ireland

Forms??? How do I add a small form for say registering for a news letter to a page of content?
Hi all. I'm not sure how to go about this. I need to create a small form for entering an email address. but the form needs to be on the homepage. I've created form pages before but this has me stumped as it needs to be part of the content for the homepage. Any ideas...?

I've been trying to get my head around exactly how I can prepare my own web page design using an external style sheet and adapt it for or fit it to, say for example, a zen sub theme. I get the impression that the main concern is that one builds one's page to suit a 1. 2. 3 or even 4 column design with header and footer and then depending on one's basic theme one can add blocks for content within those column areas and designate which content goes in which block? Perhaps I just haven't messed around enough yet with the other themes.

I don’t know if anyone know’s but there is a presentation next Thursday the 11th out in UCD demonstrating the new features of Flex 4 and Catalyst.
Anyone interested in getting up to speed with the new workflows are welcome to join. One of Adobe evangelists, Serge Jespers is flying in for the occasion so there should be a big attendance.
For those that don’t know Catalyst is a new designer tool for faster web application prototyping – integrating with Flash and Illustrator.

Drupal Design Shop's & D7
Hi Drupallers,
Anyone know companies in ireland that have expertise in designing & implementing drupal themes? Also I realise its an open ended question but any feedback as to what a design could cost would be useful as well?
I know D7 is a still a bit off but how difficult is it expected for a template implementation to go from D6 to D7?
What was it like going from D5 to D6 for example.
Anyone into doing a half day workshop ?
Hi all,
Anyone on here fancy doing a half day workshop session (for a fee) on Drupal theming in Dublin (South city centre) the week after next (Tue 9th, Wed 10th or Thurs 11th) ?
Nothing too heavy or formal - we've already developed a couple of sites - but we're looking for some advice on best practices in choosing the right modules for various purposes and approaches for converting designs into Drupal themes.
Drop responses off-list to: daragh@wildwave.com
Let us know what sites you've worked on / experience you have and what fee you propose.
Drupalcon Paris
Hi all,
Drupalcon Paris is the big Drupal gig this year, and I'm going.
http://paris2009.drupalcon.org/
[4th European Drupalcon in a row for me .. can't believe it].
Who else from Ireland is planning to travel?
Any interest in sharing an apartment for the week?
I'm taking the scenic route to get there, just for something different.
Train to Dublin, Ferry to Holyhead, Train to london [ see sailrail.co.uk for all-in ticket]
A night or two in London, and then Eurostar to Paris.
Return via Eurostar to London, and fly to Galway from London Luton.
A mini-adventure.
Drupal Monthly Meetup Dublin
A monthly Drupal meetup is held in Dublin on the last Wednesday of every month. It takes place upstairs in the Longstone pub, Townsend St, Dublin 2 and starts off at 6:30pm. A PHP user group meeting starts in the same venue at 8pm, so people are welcome to stay for that.
It's an informal meetup where you can meet fellow Drupallers, chat and have a beer. They also serve food. If you have any questions or problems, feel free to ask for advice at the meeting. Usually someone will be there with a laptop, so we can demo things if necessary. :)

Read moreNew Social Networking book out now for Drupal 6
I'm currently using a recently published book entitled, 'Drupal 6 - Social Networking' as a guide for building a social network site. The following are excerpts from the book from the publishers, Packt Publishing. See: www.packtpub.com. I should say that the publishers, Packt Publishing, part sponsored the recent DrupalNGo Camp and sprint in Galway and asked if I would post some excerpts from their book.
Drupal 6 Social Networking: Communicating with Users
Our users can communicate with one another, which is great, but quite often as an administrator the need may arise for us to communicate with a user or users on our site. It may be to remind them about the web site or to inform active users about new changes to the site, which they may not have been made aware of.
This article is extracted from the "Drupal 6 Social Networking" book. In this article, you will learn:
- About mailing lists, and how to use them with our Drupal social network
- How to use an offline approach for contacting our users
- How to use blocks of content to get a message across to your users
