Have we lost our (Zen) way?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Howdy folks! I know we're all busy with our non-Drupal lives which is probably some of the reasons we haven't seen much new work with Zen. Perhaps when the intention was that "Out of the box, Zen is clean and simple with a provided fixed-width subtheme called Zen-fixed" we are getting a little too far ahead of ourselves with some of the bigger ideas floating around. All good ideas and I want to hear more. However, with Zen still at 0.6 perhaps we need to just complete some of the simpler tasks so we can get Zen up to the 1.0 level.

While I've been able to contribute in some small ways to the templates of Zen, I for one have found it more difficult to know where to begin with regards to the design (CSS) aspects. Giving a few artists the pain brush is fine...but I think having whole community paint on the same piece of canvas make it more difficult to create quality art. On the CSS side, I'm waiting for when Zen is ready for the subtheme phase.

We are hoping to build up a library of CSS-based Zen subthemes, so feel free to hit this one like the Zen Garden and see how far you can extend it through CSS.

Are most people happy with the current look of Zen? If so...how about we finish up resolving the current issues and get Zen on it's way to 1.0. Once there I think quite a few people would like to start submitting their own styles for Zen.

I'm trying to subtheme...

Hi there, I'm trying to design a very simple subtheme for zen with my own colors in overrides.css and my own logo image instead of text by modifying a copy of page.tpl.php. I'm trying to keep my stuff separate from the zen stuff so that when bugs are fixed in the zen theme, I can just download it, and not have to worry about merging stuff together. Also, as Zen's look changes, mine could evolve along with it, with mainly just colors being over-ridden.

My main critique of Zen so far is the CSS isn't formatted that well or consistently, and I think there could be improvements in the organization of files and making sure everything is semantically correct. Otherwise, so far so good, and I look forward to making any contributions I can.

Things are looking great!

I'd like to see some additional support for theming individual content types.

If you've got a spectacular trick up your sleeves for helping with that I'd certain appreciate it!
