Welcome to the Drupal Ottawa User Group. We will use this group to develop the Drupal community in Ottawa, to plan local events (DrupalCamps, informal get-togethers, etc.) and to share success stories and planned / completed drupal implementations. Public servants (this is Ottawa after all) interested in deploying bilingual / Common Look & Feel compliant governmental web sites will find colleagues in this group facing the same challenges related to the introduction of drupal in the federal government.
Planning Session for Drupalcamp Ottawa - 235 King Edward, 2nd flr
[edited to change date to Aug 14]
Looks like there is enough interest in starting an Ottawa DrupalCamp this year. But if it's going to happen, we'll have to start getting things organized. The proposed agenda for this meeting includes:
- Venue
- Date
- Keynote speaker
- Format (i.e. unconference or structured?)
- Theme(s) and streams
- Budget
Last week I sat in on a planning meeting for the Montreal DrupalCamp, which was very helpful, and I'll be able to report on how they're handling things this year.

It's probably inevitable that sooner or later, Ottawa is going to have it's own Drupalcamp, perhaps with a major focus on government and NGOs. And because there's been quite a surge in government interest over the past year, I'm wondering whether this might be the year it happens.
With all the GoC buzz I'm pretty sure that there'd be a fair number of attendees, especially if it was held on a weekday (or Friday + Saturday), so the only question in my mind is whether there are enough people who could help with the organization of the event and could help with presentations and such.

language detection and URL aliases/paths
Hey everyone,
I'm trying to figure out a way to resolve an issue on a site for a client and maybe one of you guys have had a similar issue and can offer some insight. I'm actually a bit surprised that there is little discussion about this (or at least little that I can find on google).
So it breaks down like this. I have a multilingual D7 site, with language detection set up to use the URL path prefix.

Hello everyone,
Montreal's local Drupal Association is planning to run a 3 day Accessibility code sprint in June. Everett Zufelt of and Mike Gifford have both expressed an interest in helping to lead the sprint. We're currently looking at June 15-17 as our dates. A facility has not yet been booked, but Montreal's Notman House has been suggested. It was used successfully for our i18n sprint back in September. We're holding the sprint from June 15th to 17th at the offices of Evolving Web, 114-300 rue du Saint-Sacrement

Hi, I have a web site (http://crashcourse.ca) that is currently running on Drupal, but I am by no means conversant in Drupal and would like to find someone local to spend a few hours with me and bring it up to date, where I can watch the process and get a handle on new features so that I can make simple changes on my own but I still have access to that local expert on occasion if something larger comes up.

Looking for help with a Community Currency Exchange System for Ottawa
There's a small group of passionate individuals planning a new community currency for Ottawa. The system (named Ottawa Community Currency Network) will target individuals and businesses and aims to promote trade without the use of cash. We're currently looking at various technology options to use and one of the contenders is Drupal (v6), and specifically http://www.CommunityForge.net / CForge, which uses the mutual_credit module. This code is currently maintained by a single individual, Matthew Slater.
Our goal is to get a prototype website up quickly with the basic functionality of a mutual credit trading system and looking like this HTML mockup: http://www.ottawaccn.org. I'm in the midst of doing that now.
Our future goal is to expand the functionality to include mobile payment, notifications by SMS, geo-tagged information to support "real-life" markets, multilingual support and more - eventually even tie-in with other community currency systems. Interested in helping out?

Hi all…
Sorry this is short notice - had lots on the go last few weeks (Some of you got this email directly)
We are co-hosting the Official Ottawa Alfresco Lunch & Learn this Wednesday.
Along with showing off Alfresco SHARE capabilities… we will be showing a cross integration with the new Drupal7 WET (discussing CMIS+solr). Note that this is not a Techie “how-to” but an official Alfresco lunch and learn (There will be a few people from Alfresco Corporate which were with OpenPlus at GTEC 2011) – so should be good... And I will also be discussing Procurement vehicles.
