June Portland User Group Meetup
I hope everyone has had a chance to recover from the information overload and late night partying that is DrupalCon.
This month we'll have a brief recap of DrupalCon, share some of our favorite sessions and provide resources for those who weren't able to attend. We'll also have presentations from Amber on creating CTools plugins and Andrea on using the MERCI module to build a resource planning and reservation system.

Long Term Support (LTS) BoF at DrupalCon Portland
Exaltation of Larks is hosting a BoF (birds of a feather) discussion on long-term Drupal support (particularly for Drupal 6 sites when Drupal 8 comes out and bug fixes and security releases for Drupal 6 are discontinued).
Long Term Support is a topic that is near and dear to us and a number of our clients and this BoF is a followup to our earlier post, Drupal 6 End of Life When Drupal 8 is Released… Or Not.
We're also preparing an "LTS" version of Drupal 6 and have a lot more planned. Stay tuned to the DrupalCon BoF schedule and @LarksLA on Twitter for news of when this BoF gets scheduled.

Last night at the Way Out West meetup jansenCreative gave an incredibly thoughtful introductory (though not at all cursory) presentation on the major considerations involved in responsive design, both generally, and specifically vis-a-vis Drupal. This kicks off a planned focus on the nuts and bolts of Responsive/Drupal over the coming months. If this is up your alley, definitely add the Way Out West meetup to your calendar!

Well, it's no BoF or unconference, but at least it's a bit of free food and drink during DrupalCon PDX...
Clarity Innovations (Drupal in education enthusiasts since version 4.7) is hosting an informal meetup/social to celebrate, connect and bond with those of us that use Drupal for all things related to K12 and higher education.
The informal meetup takes place Wednesday (5/22) evening, from 6pm-8pm, at the Burnside Brewing Company, a short walk from the convention center (and conveniently on the way to the Pantheon & New Relic Party just a block away).
Cost: Free! (The first few rounds of drinks and food are on Clarity's tab.)

I hope to see you there!

Read moreUbercart 3 and Rules vs. twardnw....
Alright, I'm stumped on this one. Trying to set up a free shipping option for a client's site. I'm having quite the time figuring out how to get Rules to see a field on items in an order, to verify they qualify for free shipping. It's just a boolean field on the two product classes. Nothing I have tried seems to expose that field to rules so I can validate if the items in an order qualify for this shipping option. I have tried the 'entity has field' and 'entity is of type' method, and I am able to see fields at order:products:0:node:... etc, but not this specific field. Any advice?

I'm looking for another Drupal developer to participate in the CleanWeb Portland Hackathon. It's a weekend sprint to build a site/app for organizations working to protect the environment.
I honestly think that with one more developer on my team, we could crank out a site for GoBox, who provides re-usable food containers for food cart fanatics (like myself). Such a project would really be valuable. We might also win a prize!

This month it's show and tell! Bring a new trick you've learned or a tall tale of adventure (aka a problem you've solved).
Bring your laptop, too, so you can follow along. All developers and Drupal people are welcome, front-end or not!
We'll meet in Squishymedia's office space again (116 NE 6th Ave, 3rd floor). If you find yourself locked out, there should be a call box outside of the main building doors.

Hi all -
I have been working with Thompson Morrison to get some high school kids involved in DrupalCon Portland (20 are coming to the Build a Module training, and then to the Sprint!). He would love for members of the Drupal Community come out and show support for (and get involved with!) a new initiative he's working on. I can't make it because I have a board retreat, but I would be there otherwise! Here are the details for the May 18 meetup:
