Drupal Johannesburg Meetup: Getting serious!
In order to grow this group and to make sure the events are beneficial to everyone, we need more involvement on a leadership/planning level. During this meetup we'd like to get some volunteers who'd be able to assist moving the group forward - growing the group, having more regular meetings, and getting good event content.
A tentative agenda is:
1) Doing a 10 min presentation on what other Drupal groups do and how they're organised.
2) Deciding what we'd like to achieve as a Drupal group/community

Quote Estimates using Drupal
Hi
We have resently moved our client over to Drupal. He now has a new requirement that he wants us to do on the site.
He wants users to be able to calculate online quote indications. The user would navigate to the site, select quote and then enter 2 fields. The calculation would need to compare 2 fields in band to get the base rate and then apply various calculations to one of the fields. Once complete it must show a rand amount on the screen as well as email this amount to their email.

i am wondering how many drupal developers there are in the south of cape town. i am based in capri and i see that some of you are in muizenberg and places like that. perhaps we could start a drupal group just for the deep south :) and have meetups and stuff because most of the meetups seem to happen in town or johannesburg and i find it annoying to have to go to town. why not do it right here?

Cape Town drupallers, unite! We've been talking for a while about meeting up...so let's do it. Adrian will be demoing Ægir and we'll show off some cool stuff you can do with drupal. Please add your name to the list if you're coming :)
Although the original location was Mugg n Bean, we've moved it to Wembley Square (map) as it's quieter and more conducive to drupalling.

Hi
I was wondering, has anybody gottent it right to install MAMP (Mac) on a USB and then install Drupal.
I am getting tired of working on the same website from 2 machines, desktop and laptop. Always have to export database and copy files and re-import when i move between machines.
Would be nice to work off a USB and when i go home i take out USB an plug it in at home and carry on working.
I have searched the net and not found any real solution when working on a mac. Both machines are mac.
Thanks

Read moreNotes on the Drupal Johannesburg 11 March meetup
For me, it was great to see everyone again, although I was disappointed that there weren't more than 3 new faces among the 15 or so that turned up. We do need to do something to attract more new members. I particularly enjoyed hearing about what new modules people have discovered, and enjoyed the less formal discussions afterwards. The discussion about the direction and future of the group was also very interesting and I think the issues spoken about need to be addressed, perhaps using drupal.co.za to better effect. On these lines, this post on tips and best practices for local Drupal groups is highly relevant. In particular, I think the group leadership needs to be shared between 3-4 people in order to grow and improve the group. For a more detailed summary see my Drupal Johannesburg 11 March meetup notes.
Read moreThemeing cck input form with a zen subtheme
I've struggled with this for days now, about to freak out. Please can somebody help??
Using drupal 6.9, zen 6.x 1.0
Starting over, this is the current state:
1. Created a content type called 'medprac' (machine readable name).
-
Created a zen subtheme called 'zentagit'
-
Altered template.php in zentagit theme folder like this':
Copied the 'theme_node_form' function from the core node directory file node.pages.inc and pasted it in the zentagit theme's template.php file.
Renamed the function to read 'zentagit_node_form'

Read moreCustom Front Page
Hi All
Watched the following video, http://www.mustardseedmedia.com/podcast/episode11.
Is this the best and most common way to creating custom home pages?
It seems to be focused on creating custom blocks and making them display only on the front page and then styling them.
Thanks

I'm wanting to start organising the next Drupal Johannesburg meetup, to be held in March/April 2009.
The last meetup was a great success, with more than 25 people in attendance.
I'd like to get some feedback from people about what they'd like to see/do at the next meetup.
My personal vision for this meetup would be a series of lightning talks to kick off with, and then free time for deeper discussions and just being social. Details:

Hi everyone has anyone here worked with nodeapi before?
I'm busy writing a module that will add a download link to a VCS (vCalendar file) for each node that has a event enabled.
I started by looking at the documentation at:

hook_form_alter
I then looked at the following example:

For those of you who may not know drupal.co.za is up and running, this is a community site so it needs your input.
Why not start by adding your site to the showcase and show you work to the world. If you have a company, add it to the list of Service Providers. Got a suggestion, comment or just have something to say? Post it in the forum.
Also if you are looking for a job or need and extra set of hands check out the jobs section regularly.
The site is still work in progress so if you have any suggestions or ideas now is the best time to make yourself heard.

I'm new to the Drupal World and have been trying to create a rich database directory website for a nonprofit I'm planning to start and have spent an enormous amount of time trying to learn the Form API programming language to make a fairly basic directory input form that is attached to the MYSQL database. I've come to the point where I need to ask for help and would like to know if anyone is interested in tutoring me through the basic setup of this part of my site. Of course I would pay you for your time. I live in the Randburg area.
