Drupal 7 - how ready is it, really?
Hi Folks
I'm about to start 3 new projects, 2 of them are really basic, so I'm definitely going to get myself started on D7 with those.
The third is a bit more advanced, as it contains an online entry system and sponsorship (ie needing Commerce, PayPal, etc).
Is Drupal 7 ready and stable enough for this yet? Or should I just stick with D6 for the moment?
Thoughts on this appreciated.

Hi guys,
I'm in Cape town and noticed that no one had put up a release party yet. I haven't relly had time to meet up with local Drupallers (especially since writing the D7 book took so much of my time). At any rate, I thought it would be nice if we could all meet up and have a drink - the release of D7 is a great excuse.
I've posted a release party signup form here:

We all know Drupal 7 will be released shortly.
D7 Release Parties are being thrown all over the world in celebration - most taking place Jan 7, 2011.
I know for a fact the African Drupal Community is much larger and more active than most people realize, so why not take this opportunity to show the world where all the African Drupal communities are hiding?

Read moreOG alternatives
Hi guys
I'm looking for a simpler alternative for Organic groups.
I don't want to use OG because it is a bit overboard for what I want to do, I don't need user->group control + I need to do node access control by other means as well (which OG does not like).
I simply want to have a main page for a user, and then also maintain a relationship to the main page of the user's other nodes such as blogs, events, etc.
Obvious choice is node relations/reference, but before I jump into some custom coding, has anybody got some other ideas/modules to suggest?
Thanks

Hi Guys:
Big apology – we have been run off of our feet this month with a project that needs to be finished a week ago So you will have to forgive my absence.
Okay, we have decided that we should do the following for our last meeting:
When: 30/11/2010
Time: 19:00 – till late or our bums can’t take the seating anymore
Place: Sinn’s – free parking after 19:00 (I think – Lilian?) and good security inside the building!!
So we shall see you then for a fine old time.

Some very interesting stats have just emerged about the freelance and contract market for CMS developers and designers.
In its quarterly market report, freelance site DoNanza discovered that even though WordPress devs, designers and SEO pros are in greater demand than their Drupal or Joomla counterparts — and even though WordPress outnumbers Drupal and Joomla in the number of projects for each CMS — Drupal web professionals on average make around twice what WordPress pros make per project.

We will be creating the new Multotec Group website (Phase 1) with development starting early next week. The Design and Development Team is MediaSourceStudio out of Benoni headed by Shaun Richardson. We will send a link to the live development blog attached to the site once it's active. The idea is to post the development framework and elicit comment so that the DrupalZA community can see the site being developed as it happens.
It may be a good chance to see a site being developed from the ground up. If you would like to participate in the blog, feel free to logon next week.
