Searching for Modules and Themes with certain characteristics

Drupal has many (thousands of) modules and themes that make it an attractive platfrom to use. But often researching modules and themes takes longer than to build them into a solution. Here are a few suggestions for how the new d.o could help people find modules and themes more quickly:

  • A list of modules by category, where you get a page with all the modules in that category (not like the current category list with a pager). Please retain the current listing of all modules - a text search in the browse through this page is often the best way to find things.

My vision for Drupal.org's project pages

I took some time today to draw up my vision for the project pages..

Only local images are allowed.

Full size version.

It's a mix of my current work, some future plans, and some ideas I had for harnessing Drupal.org's data. More details over here.

So, what do you think?

What users are searching for outside of Drupal.org

I thought you guys might be interested in these search numbers from DrupalModules.com. It turns out they're very similar to what's being reported by Drupal.org. One thing to note, my data has been filtered for IP-uniqueness to prevent result spamming (intentional, or not), the Drupal.org data is just coming right out of the watchdog log unfiltered.

Dev or No Dev?

The other day, Bob Christenson posted a question on Twitter about development versions of modules.

Anyone know of a way to track new official #drupal releases(not hackish, unusable dev versions). The problem is, not all dev versions are bad

Since the question affects a lot of topics we've been discussing in the Churches Group, including conversations about building install profiles, I've decided to write about it here.

Drupal base - v6 or v5

Hi there,

I am putting together a website for a college newspaper. I am set on using Drupal as my CMS, but it appears that many newspaper-related modules have not been updated for Drupal 6 -- most notably, Panels. Is there a way to use these modules on Drupal 6, or should I base my site on Drupal 5. I'm a relatively advanced developer but am new to Drupal - I apologize if I have overlooked something.

Thanks!

Imageflow

The new module Imageflow looks quite interesting. I'm not sure how exactly to use it on my own site, but it looks cool.

seeking modules and software inclusions..

Does anyone have any idea how to implement out sourced products with imbedded source codes?
How can I include product lines into my website like the fallowing example:

ie:
http://www.ramones.com/
and http://www.misfits.com/

if you do a test and fallow me youll see what im talking about:

find a product.
they have outsourced their products through a company called cinderblock.com
this is typical now days.

so what if i want to impliment spreadshirt.com?
or perhaps other sites that have custom pages of your own with your products?

New Modules RSS Feed

I've created an RSS feed for keeping track of new Drupal modules. The feed is updated daily with descriptions of every new module released on Drupal.org.

Modules are only announced when the maintainer has actually published a release to their project page. This is important because it keeps unfinished modules off the list until they're ready to use (or at least download).

More details here.
