PHP Download Commentary
When the Pear module installs, it fetches three files from cvs.php.net: PEAR.php, Archive/Tar.php, and Console/Getopt.php. The reason these files aren't included with the module is because they're licensed under the PHP License and we're not allowed to host stuff that's not licensed under the GPL in the Drupal CVS repositories. When it came time to implement this part of the installation process, I came to a fork in the road.
Traditionally, whenever I wanted to download files using PHP, I used fsockopen() and fopen(), sent the HTTP headers myself, and did the whole read into buffer then write routine. It's not a bad idea. In fact, the go-pear script does just that. However, I came across two other solutions.

all day now, i have been trying to get everything "server side" setup in ubuntu, and have had absolutely no luck at all. first, i installed xampp for linux, which used to be Lampp in a previous relaese; it was horrible. there was no way to actually reconfigure apache, or redirect the localhost with it actively running. so then it was onto lullabot for some assistance. ah-ha, i found a video which was great. i uninstalled xampp and was prepared to follow along on a fresh setup. so i opened synaptic, installed apache, php5, mysql, etc. and all went great, or so i thought.

A few people at last night's SeaDUG meeting expressed interest in a PHP Study Group that is evolving out of the Seattle PHP Group mailing list. We're not sure yet what level to start, area to focus - it depends on who shows up and expresses interest!
We (the PHP mailing-list folk) have agreed to meet an hour in advance of the regular Seattle PHP Meetup to decide when, where and what to study together. Please see this post for details.

Read moreext/elePHPant anyone?
I'm trying to get a bulk-order together of elePHPants... Anyone interested? :-) They're not expensive, but ordering from Europe makes the shipping more costly, hence ordering in bulk.
I've already got a few bites from the ChiPHP list. I can order and distribute them at a later meeting.

Hi, everyone. Sorry to double-post, but this is to clarify the previous one.
I'm starting a WikiPage on promoting Drupal Dojo at http://groups.drupal.org/node/6386. The hope is that promoting the Dojo will attract and incubate more Drupal developers, as well as spread the Dojo's tools and philosophy to other projects.

Hello. We've got 15 subscribers to our Huntsville Drupal group, but we are still kind of dead. Let's figure out a way to build a community of Huntville (or North Alabama/Tennessee Valley) Drupal users.
First off, I'd like to invite everyone to the PHP/MySQL/LAMP users group of Huntsville meeting in two weeks. The meeting will take place at 7PM in Huntsville on July 27. While these meetings are usually held somewhere like "Barnhills Grill", the current meeting doesn't have an announced meeting place. However, http://codango.com is sponsoring the meeting and will provide drinks and pizza. Stay tuned to that group for a finalized meeting place.
Go here for more information about the the Huntsville PHP/MySQL/LAMP meetup: http://php.meetup.com/348/
Secondly, be sure to subscribe to the RSS feed for this Huntsville Drupal group: http://groups.drupal.org/node/1183/feed
Finally, feel free to post to this group about the Drupal projects you are working. I'm always interested in seeing what others are making. I've got a couple of projects that I will be sharing here in a short while.
By the way, I've had the pleasure to meet Tony Gettig, Mike Stinson, and Philip Reed (current Huntsville Drupal users). If we can't get together for a group meeting, maybe we can meet in smaller groups for lunch or coffee.
Anyone else have any ideas on building our Huntsville group?
Read moreNeed PHP help
I'm currently working on a site for a client. I do my work for him in trade for credit against what he sells so no money is exchanged.
I'm terrible with PHP (read, I know nothing about it). I could really use some help with a request he made of me and was hoping someone here might volunteer some time. I'd be glad to pass some credit along to you for your time if you like inverts of any sort.

Well, the April PHP meetup drew a nice crowd of 8 people. We were seated at 2 tables of 4 each, and our table basically talked Drupal all night! So it's clear there's some overlap and I'd like to play that up. I'd also like to try to correct the problem of being stuck in one position all night, not being able to mix up conversation. So, I'd like to try to get the PHP Meetup crowd and the Drupal Group crowd together for an evening.
