October Vancouver Meetup
October means Halloween, turning our clocks back to reclaim that lost hour, and another gathering of the Vancouver Drupaliers!
The October meetup is Thursday October 26th, 6:30pm at Bryght's new office at 1 Alexander in Gastown. This will be a house warming of sorts, though I understand plants are optional. Bring your lightning talks, your questions about module programming, site configuration or anything else Drupal for "Stump the Ninja" and show off new sites you've released into the wild.
Feel free to BYOB or snacks.
Time: Thursday October 26th, 2006, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

This group's been around for a while now, and we have 15 members.
I think it's time we try to get together to have a Twin Cities Drupal Meeting.
Since I'm probably as far out of town as anyone on the list, I'm open to suggestions for a meeting place and time. Actually, I'm BEGGING for suggestions for a meeting place and time.
And - anyone want to suggest a topic? David Geilhufe has suggested the possibility that I give a presentation of how CivicSpace on Demand works. So I'll throw that out as a possibility.

Meeting Topic:
Presentation on the OpenID single-sign-on http://www.openidenabled.com/openid/about-openid
Location:
FREE GEEK -> Community Technology Center -> 1731 SE 10th Avenue -> Portland, OR 97214 -> 503-232-9350
Tuesday, June 13th, 6pm-8pm, then pub.
Meeting Desc:
Jonathan Daugherty will be giving a presentation on the OpenID single-sign-on protocol including usage of their PHP OpenID API and details on how OpenID can be used by Drupal.
So what is OpenID?
OpenID is a URL based identity system. An OpenID identity is simply a URL, and all the OpenID specification does is provide a way to securely prove that you own that URL.
Unlike most identity systems, OpenID is completely decentralized. The end-user may choose whichever server they are most comfortable with, and may even run their own if they choose.
Free and open to the public. Most likely hit a near by pub afterwards.
See you all there,

Blake from DANEnet, Patricia and Sheldon from Center for Media and Democracy and myself (from Midwest Social Forum) met for about 2 hours at Michelangelo's. We spent much of the time introducing ourselves and our various projects, and got into some details about various modules and implementations we're dealing with. Apparently we're all fans of the mapping modules....
We actually spent most of the time talking about the Midwest Social Forum (new Drupal site that went live yesterday!). Initially, i brought up the idea of working with other folks to put together a workshop on social software, which would present Drupal along with some other tools out there that community orgs and social movements can make use of. The current proposal for that is located here: http://www.mwsocialforum.org/node/511.

So, theoretically, something like tomorrow (Thursday, May 25th), would be the next meeting. That's probably a little short notice, so let's do next week -- June 1st. How does that work for folks? I'll enter this as an event for now, and we can shift as needed -- please signup if you are going to attend.
I'd also like to have someone step up and help me organize. I travel a fair bit, and would like to have at least one or two other folks to help do things like make sure the next meeting is organized :P
Also, a DrupalCamp is being planned for Seattle at the end of June -- about 4 weeks away.

Our monthly meeting, taking place at the Take 5 Cafe on the corner of Granville and Hastings.
Update: Take 5 is actually changing their hours and will no longer be staying open late -- just found this out today. Let's meet at the Bryght offices, 525 Seymour, Suite 203. Front doors close at 6pm, so we'll be standing downstairs in front of the building, just down from BCIT.
Please leave a comment if you would like to present. Some of the topics we can discuss include the past DrupalCamp Toronto, the upcoming DrupalCamp Seattle, review the Google Summer of Code announcements, and perhaps have Steve MacKenzie show us his Skype Support module.

Meeting to discuss the curriculum development.
The time is tentative, and we want to try and include as many people who are already tasked with developing courseware, as there
are several of us. Please comment with what time would suit you.
Todo list and agenda to come.
UPDATED: Time moved ahead 2 hours due to request from Rowan.

Let's get together. This is a new group, and we don't know who we are, so let's get together and talk about Drupal. I suggest we hold our first meeting in Victoria, since that provides the best opportunity for the fewest people to travel to the meeting. I hope future meetings can be held in other strategic and beautiful locations on Vancouver Island, with an annual meeting at Tofino.
The purpose of the meeting will be to meet and greet, network, learn, share ideas and approaches, etc.
Special guest(s) to be announced.
So let's get together on June 8th at 7:00pm in Victoria at a location TBD.
