DrupalSouth is Oceania's biggest Drupal event, and will be held this year at the Hotel Realm in Canberra, from December 3rd to 5th.

We're expecting over 300 people and four tracks of Drupal goodness over two days, plus a code sprint on the Wednesday.

Early bird tickets for this event are only $110, but they end TODAY (Friday 28th September).

As you might have seen through other channels, the DrupalSouth 2018 call for papers and session submissions has opened at https://www.papercall.io/drupalsouth-2018

Session Track topics include:

• Back-end Development
• Front-end Development
• DevOps and Security
• User Experience & Content
• Project Management
• Drupal in Government
• Showcase & Horizons

Session submissions can be a full 40 minutes, half session 20 minutes or 10 minute lightning talk, and more than one speaker may co-present a session.

In parallel with the lead up to DrupalSouth Canberra this year we've had a local Drupal community team plan and release a call for venue proposals for next year, 2019. Submissions are open to anyone within the Australia and New Zealand Drupal community.

As part of the planning for DrupalSouth Canberra this year I'm putting out a call for people to volunteer as Track Chairs to review session submissions and assist with speakers' preparation.

DrupalSouth will be held in Canberra in November 2018 - dates and venue TBD.

Volunteering as a Track Chair is an essential role that ensures session submissions are reviewed by discipline experts and selected to provide attendees with the best possible conference experience.

Social Change Media is looking for an experienced and reliable Drupal developer.

We currently have around 20+ Drupal websites (all 7.x) in production and require a contract/freelance Drupal developer to cover for existing developers on vacation as well as provide support on an ad-hoc basis during busy periods.

Q1) The journey to start contributing to Drupal is somewhat complex and confusing for newbies. How can this be improved?

Q2) How can Drupal be made easier for newcomers to learn. How can the learning curve be made less steep?

Q3) Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 was a major shift for many. How can this change me minimized?

Q4) How can migrations from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 be made easier?

I out of the freelancing game. One of my clients needs a bit of work done, so I wonder if there's anyone out there who would be interested in taking them on?

They are a labour organisation in the transport industry.

Their drupal 7 website integrates with their Netsuite CRM, but apparently some changes on the Netsuite side of things has broken it. So the initial job would be to fix this. I'm sure there will be ongoing, occasional work.

The client is based in Sydney, so ideally you would be too.
