Public and Private Files
So this has been the quite week and I've been in the process of moving and thus been quite busy. Nonetheless most of the changes have been in upload.module so that there is now some visible change. Stayed tuned as the development pace will just pick up from here.

Hey all!
I'm just checking for support to hold a Drupal even in New Brunswick (UNBSJ or UNBM would probably be the ones providing space). The event would hopefully be DrupliCON sized, and would probably garner support from local developers and service providers.
If anyone is interested, put a comment in here, if there is enough support I'll set the ball rolling for this.

Tonight's Austin Drupal meeting was the first I attended. And I enjoyed it. I'm especially glad to see follow-up meetings set for CiviCRM, Basic Drupal Installation, and Theming -- for this June.
As I said at the meeting, around the country there is interest on the part of public access and community media in Drupal.
Here is a website where some of this development is described:
www.pegspace.org
On this site, it mentions Manhattan Neighbohood Networks' work with CiviCRM.

Things are finally getting started. So for the first week Drupal 6 was settled on. So I was able to get a little familiar and get a good test environment set up for development. Some initial changes were made to file saving so that a private/public flag would be set (right now everything is considered public). Unfortunately the power supply on the computer I use for development died. So things might be a little slow until I get the new power supply on Thursday. Thus is life and so I'll get to really push myself over the next weekend ;).

So the Summer of Code is started and getting private and public files working is now on the top of the list of my priorities. The first issue to solve, should this go in Drupal 5 or Drupal 6. Because of the nature of the fixes Drupal 6 would make sense but may contain too many problems to work around (bugs, wildly changing code). What has really left it up in the air is this patch which would associate files with users rather than nodes. So the first step is to figure that out.

I'm working on at least one fun project that I could use some immediate help with.
Some tasks include:
Setting up CCK + imagecache to allow publishing new items (containing image, link, text) to a Flash piece (writing a new line to an XML file);
Fixing some minor CSS discrepancies in IE;
Some standard Views work, e.g. a page with the top five of a few different content types, each then has its own page;
Convert tables to tableless CSS, the Drupal way where relevant;
Assorted PHPtemplate stuff;

Drupal Seminar generates lot of interest from final year IT Students in Ahmedabad, India
BPO Canada held a Drupal Seminar at Ahmedabad office where 13 Fresh and Final Semester students attended the event.
Apart from Drupal features, technology stack and a high level run down of Drupal Architecture, these students were shown the case studies of la2day.com and gujjuweb.com
They have signed up for Drupal Ahmedabad Groups and we are looking forward to address much larger audience next month.

Greetings fellow Drupal heads!
It looks like we are starting to see an increasing interest in having an official Nashville Meet and Greet so I am throwing some thoughts out there for everyone to mash-up.

Well, the April PHP meetup drew a nice crowd of 8 people. We were seated at 2 tables of 4 each, and our table basically talked Drupal all night! So it's clear there's some overlap and I'd like to play that up. I'd also like to try to correct the problem of being stuck in one position all night, not being able to mix up conversation. So, I'd like to try to get the PHP Meetup crowd and the Drupal Group crowd together for an evening.
