internationalization

Hi Guys,

I am completely new to Drupal, and just started looking last night at Drupal 7 and various language related modules. I have an idea for a multi-language (2 language) site I would like to do, and was wondering if you guys could offer me some initial feed back on how achievable this may be with Drupal, and also how easy/difficult it may be.

I am wondering how I can translate the date fields and whether there is an easy way to do it without having to write hooks modify preprocess_node. I want to be able to add custom date format, possibly rtl such as Hebrew and Arabic, but i18n does not provide this.
Do I have to build custom hook?
Also, I tried to translate some of theme strings stored in variable such as the line (submitted by author on date ) . used I18N and searched for the string under interface transaltion with no success. are these bugs ? or am I approaching it the wrong way?

Complete n00b here, working from a technical documentation perspective. Drupal lets me store data in a db and display it (or turn it to PDF for printing); that's fine. However, it is imperative that large chunks of data (XML tagged UETF-8 Unicode) can be easily stored and retrieved from my Drupal database. There are two parts to what I must be sure of:

1) Unicode support (CJK, Arabic, etc. must be possible for our customers)

Drupal does this, fine.

Since settings.php gets overwritten during migrations or verifications I want to put the i18n variables into global.inc, but only apply them if i18n is enabled.

I've put the following code into global.inc:

As soon as I save the change, though, I get this WSOD error on all sites:

There are a number of places where for accessibility in D7 we still need to add strings to fields in core. There are still quite a few missing labels for fields in and this is very important so that individuals using screen readers have an opportunity to understand what the field represents. We want to do this however in a way which doesn't loading a tonne more work on translators.

Bygger en hemsida åt en kund där sidan kommer att vara översatt till ca 10 språk. Har installerat internationalization-modulen(i18n) och det fungerar bra.

Problemet jag har nu är att det kommer finnas 1 person i varje land som skall ha rätt att översätta sitt eget språk, men ej något annat språk.
Går detta att lösa med rättigheter eller måste man installera ytterliggare någon modul för att kunna fixa detta?

What would be the simplest way to list all menu items - independent on the current language and still keep the "Content selection" to "Only current language". Or maybe an AJAX refresh when other language is chosen in dropdown menu.

I'm stuck with a small problem…

I've built a website for a film festival, in french and english.
Now we have to make the printed brochure. We are using InDesign because it has a built-in XML importer, so with Views and Datasources, I can export all the data I need, but only in one language.
