Read moreAny Interest in Learning How to Code in Drupal?
Hi all,
I have been using Drupal for about 6 months on my own site and now having a real desire to learn how to code in Drupal. I'm an application developer in real life, but never had to use PHP.
I'm wondering if anyone would like to walk down this path with me. I thought it would be more fun to do this as a team rather than by myself.
We can discuss details like when and how often we are going to meet if there is enough interest in such a "learning" group.
Please reply to this post if you are interested, and feel free to post any ideas you may have.
Thanks!

Drupal Training Opportunities
Spring has sprung! The local Drupal community is growing and developing quite a network of learning and networking opportunities. Here are some of the upcoming gigs.
- This group (of course): The Twin Cities Drupal Users Group Meeting. These meetings are free and happen monthly. No level of expertise is expected or required. Usually a topic of interest is discussed along with open forum for questions and networking. Always some yummy pizza following the topic discussion. Every 4th Wednesday evening starting at 7 PM. More info can be found here - be sure you are signed up to receive emails through the "my membership" link in the right column. Hope to see you soon!
- Lullabot's Drupal Theming and jQuery and API and Module Development classes for the more advanced Drupal developers. For more information, see their post below.
- Drupal Basic Training: Build a Drupal Website. For those of you how are just starting Drupal, Advantage Labs, Inc. is offering a 4-week class/workshop/seminar series on how to build websites using Drupal. We've been hearing from many folks - from the users group meetings to the Drupal Day at the Science Museum attendees - that a class like this would be helpful. It starts April 14th - a week from Monday. We expect to follow the series with more topic-based workshops (one-time) and more advanced classes.
We are also excited by Open Circuit. Science Museum of MN, Sunday's Energy, Gorton Studios, Steve Hanson (TC Drupal online group founder), TCDrupal Users Group and others have all been working toward more extended collaboration on Drupal learning opportunities. Stay tuned for more info to learn about Drupal and get involved locally.

Twin Cities Meetup with Dries and the "Usability Team" RSVP
Some of you may already be aware of the Drupal Usability Testing Efforts at the University of Minnesota. Dries has also posted some thoughts on this project and how it fits into the greater Drupal usability plan.
A few folks have asked whether or not we were planning on holding a local Drupal meetup event, given that Dries and a handful of core developers would be hanging out in TC for a few days. The answer to that question is: Yes! We have a jam-packed few days of work for the Drupal team, but we're going to start things off with an informal public meetup on Monday, February 25 at 6:00pm:
Details
* Location: Campus Club (Directions and Parking)
* Time: Begins at 6:00pm
* Catered by the Campus Club
What we'd like to know is, who's in? Please help us out with an informal RSVP by posting your name and an optional affiliation to this wiki page. Thanks!
Read moreFebruary Meeting - User-centric Site Structure
February’s presentation was a bit “meta” for a Drupal group, focusing on basic user-centered site structure -- An approach that works similarly regardless of your choice of CMS (or lack thereof). I focused on my use of card-sorting exercises to develop the hierarchy of information used at Friends of the Mississippi River's web site, http://www.fmr.org, in our 2007 Drupal-based redesign. The notes and example documents that I used in my presentation are attached below.

For the January meeting, Gorton Studios will walk through the home page of the Rake Magazine (one of our recent projects) and deconstruct it by looking at the files and code involved. Much of what will be covered is at least hinted at in our writeup of that project (http://drupal.org/node/191608), and reading through that writeup may help you get more from the session.

The next meeting is January 23rd (I believe). We missed the November meeting, so I don't know if an agenda and presenter have already been set for January. If not, though, we'd previously mentioned that we were willing to present on some of our recent projects and had tentatively slotted that for the January meeting.
