This group is for everyone living in the DC metro area who's interested in Drupal. You can post here about anything relating to DC and Drupal, whether that's local job postings, events, or just a call out to talk shop over beers.

We have a great meetup every month where we get together to connect in person. The target audience is Drupal developers, users, and people who want to learn more about Drupal. We start the meetups with a round of very focused lightning talks that discuss real world solutions to existing problems, new work people have done, and Drupal news. Some of these talks are about code, and some are not. We do ask that all presenters talk on a level that everyone - including non-developers - can follow. After the talks, we chat over beer, and maybe play a few games of foosball.
We're open to ways to improve the meetups and this group, so speak up if you have ideas!

New RSS aggreegator catching up fast
The people at las Sociedad de las Indias Electrónicas have just launched a couple of days ago a new open dynamic rss aggregator called Feevy. I wonder how it compares to the current capacity of some of Drupal´s aggregators and what could be its impact or if we have anything to learn from it. Their launch is primarily directed to Europe and Latin America but are already receiving interest from some networks with a heavy US presence.

Washington, DC Drupal Meetup, December 18th
We'll have our "almost monthly" DC Drupal Meetup on Monday, December 18th at the Science Clue (1136 19th Street, NW). We'll start at 7 pm with $3 Yuenglings and then get some presentations going. This month we'll be in the basement and we'll have a little more room.

I work for a non-profit organization and have budgeted for hiring some help programing a few modules, and other customization for our drupal run website. Any work would be released under the GPL unless otherwise specified.
Projects we need worked on are:
- Live Moderated Web Discussions - This would be a module written to replace some outdated custom code. The Moderated Web Discussion module would allow us to setup moderated "chats" where a Guest would answer moderated questions as they arrived, at which point the questions and answer would be "published" to the Discussion's webpage. Access would be controlled, and the moderated web discussions could be limited by role. Their would be three aspects to this, the page which the visitors read and submit questions from, the page for the moderator to select questions (and answer them) for the Guest, the Guest's page where the selected questions show up for them to answer, and of course the admin pages.
- Payflow Pro/Verisign(paypal) Payment Module for eCommerce module - We already know there's one being worked on, but it seems to be stalled, and currently doesn't work on our site. Getting this working is a priority for us. I'd like to see a completed module that "just works" that everyone can use.
- Various CiviCRM/Drupal integration work, and customization We are starting to utilize CiviCRM and would like to take advantage of more of the advanced features available.
Other projects will undoubtedly crop up, so whom ever does the above work will most likely get a first look at future projects.

So, I have been doing my monthly round up of really cool sites, and have been coming across a number of candidate Web sites using podcasting and / or multimedia solutions.
While I am not ready to tack any modules onto Drupal.org, I wanted to write about some low cost ways podcasting and multimedia can be added to a campaign budget. As I see it, the main benefit of adding audio and video in a campaign context is it is a direct appeal from a candidate to potential voters and donors and really gives people a chance to present themselves in the best light. Every campaign I know of has video of speeches and debates that probably should be shown in some context, and there are a number of really cheap ways to pull all this information into a site without a lot of effort.

Theme Development Workshop
Working over the weekends is no fun, but having friends around helps.
In order to brighten things up a bit, Trellon will be conducting a theme development workshop this Saturday, October 7, 2006 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM EST. We will be discussing CSS design considerations, cross browser issues, best practices with phptemplate, implementing AJAX within user interfaces and more. During the meeting, we will be working on an actual project and sharing the tips and tricks we use to design great Web sites. We will also be doing a question and answer session at the end of the meeting, so come prepared.

Rasmus Lerdorf is known for having gotten the PHP project off the
ground in 1995, the mod_info Apache module and he can be blamed for the

We are having our next Washington, DC, Meet-up on Wednesday, September 13th at 7 pm. This time it will be even easier for folks coming from work downtown to stop by - we are meeting at the Science Club at 1136 19th Street, NW. My name is Michael Haggerty and I am the managing partner of Trellon. Just moved back to DC after a couple years in Vegas and boy is my arm tired (those slot machines can wear you out).
Going to be out here full time for the rest of the year and looking forward to getting down with the Drupal crowd. The IT community in Vegas pretty much does 2 things, network security and slot machine game design (bet you did not know the average video slot machine code is constructed in Fortran and / or C and compiles with only 16-bit graphics). Talking about social networking, open source, CMS, etc. is likely to get you a listing in the Griffin book, which is a casino blacklist generally reserved for cheats.
