Making Content editing easy for the client

Hi guys,

Does anyone have an idea of an article, tutorial or module that I can use to create a limited
content editor account that can only upload pdfs to a site?

As per this example:
- The website has a list of pdfs created by views.
- The client has an account that when loged takes him to a screen that
there is just a field to browse for the file and a submit button
- The input fields for body, menu settings, authoring information, publishing options ... etc shouldn't be visible
just the upload file cck field

Thanks,
Manolis

Drupal 7 Module Development book, where can I buy it?!

The book can be found on Amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Pro-Drupal-Development-Todd-Tomlinson/dp/1430228385

However Amazon either charge high postage costs or take a long time; does anybody know if there's a more local site or shop where I can get it quicker/cheaper in HK?

Thanks :D

User registration confirmation email

When a new user registers on the site, a confirmation email is sent out. Is this an automatic process, or is it linked to cron?
I have a user who keeps trying to register but is not getting the confirmation email, whereas It worked fine when I tried it.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Nick

Can't scroll to bottom of overlay in Drupal 7 on Mac

Not sure what i'm doing wrong here but on a fresh install of Drupal 7, when I open the admin page and do something that opens the admin overlay - e.g. create a blog post, I can't scroll to the bottom of the overlay. It just seems to stop. So I can't actually see any of the save / submit buttons.
I've attached a screen shot. Notice the scroll bar on the right is at the bottom of the window but i've not reached the bottom of the page.
Baffled by this one. Any ideas?

Nick

Thanks to all who attended our last session and contributed some great ideas! We brainstormed and consolidated ideas from the HKDUG presentation to hone it down to the following tasks:

  1. Build a directory listing of drupal sites "Made in Hong Kong" as a simple showcase of the talent.
  2. Allow the public to submit their sites for display - we need submission guidelines and moderation rules (ideas please?)

Hosting

You probably all face to situation. Some more serious than others, but am looking for trustworthy advises and I know i can get those here..

I have been helping out some NGO's and non-profit organizations with their websites. Basically they all have their own hosting company and usually pay more than necessary.
Especially because the have very small websites.

Now I was thinking of offering a service to them without me benefiting financially from it.

Normally i recommend people using ICDSoft.com as a hosting provider, but with their service I cannot host multiple sites on one plan.

Role permission by language

Hi all,

As the site im working on is getting bigger and bigger, and more and more different people are involved in the content editing, i want to set clearer permissions.
As the language is in 6 languages, i have 1 editor for each language. But i do not want the editor for French be able to touch and be able to edit the English content; only viewing is enough.

How can i set this?

Thanks a lot!

Menno

Review of January 28 Meetup for HKDUG Newcomers

Only local images are allowed.

Thank you for everyone who join our January 28 Meetup for HKDUG Newcomers. We had a simple and relax gathering at home, introduce and sharing with each others (together with pizza, beer and free chat), discuss for many different Drupal 6/7 issues (Oh yes, MANY!), and also brainstorming for the needs of HKDUG newcomers. We even prolong the gathering with endless topics until 23:00. More photos can be found in here and Flickr!

Special thanks to my lovely wife Rebecca for the delicious home-made chicken wings + spaghettis :D

Only local images are allowed.

Some creative suggestion for our upcoming HKDUG meetup:

  • Live demo for Drupal 6/7 theme development, e.g. convert from RAW HTML/CSS design to Zen subtheme, with the help of Firebug.
  • Security of Drupal and cracking Drupal, e.g. how to protect your server and Drupal site, how to discover the attack.
  • Hong Kong Drupal developer marketing strategy, e.g. how many people are working for Drupal-specific development, the needs and requirement of Hong Kong's clients.
  • Hong Kong Drupal User Group website design/idea/suggestion, e.g. prepare topic for 2011-02-26 HKDUG website hacking section.
  • Hong Kong Drupal User Group logo competition, e.g. close for submission a week before 2011-02-24 meetup, setup polling, and announce for winner during meetup.
  • Drupalcamp-like hand on problem solving section, e.g. submit question before meetup, a special meetup on Saturday/Sunday for at least 5 hours, ad-hoc question submit in BarCamp style, hand on problem solving by volunteers.
  • ... and even more!

IMHO it should be a good starting point for our HKDUG 2011 schedule, which focus on needs of our newcomers, setup interconnection between each members, promote the usage of Drupal in Hong Kong market and so on.

Do you have any idea of the HKDUG 2011 roadmap? We need your suggestion and contribution :D

Problem on the website i've been working on

Dear all,

I've tried to find the right section to post this question, so I hope you guys can help me.
Is a problem which occurs on the website of a charity organization i've been working on. http://2011.gateway.org.hk.

I havent been able to find out the real source of the problem, but my guess is, that it is linked with views and panels. Also it is related to the different browsers Firefox, Safari and IE.

1.) The problem occurs in Safari (for Mac & Windows) and in IE (for Windows). Firefox doesnt have this problem.
