Question about MySQL's query_cache

Last week I was having horrible issues with write speeds on my server. Amazingly, I think I've narrowed it down to my query_cache_size just being far too big. I set it to 2GB, and it looks like it was storing so much information that it couldn't sort through it all fast enough when writing, to put it in simple terms anyway.

Views support for mongodb

Just wanted to brainstorm regarding a table wizard/mongodb possible integration
We've entered the mobile scene pretty strong and we're thinking of having something lighter then drupal services on the server side (Drupal performs a full drupal bootstrap for each service call).
This might be ok in a low traffic application but could never suite a mmorpg or a facebook application.
My idea is to use node.js as the server and mongodb as the storage and then export the mongodb data to drupal.

We're currently porting a community site from tikiwiki to Drupal. We have around 4000 registered users. Usually there are about 150-300 people online, with about a 10th being authenticated or so (this figure will probably rise, as Drupal has the option of keeping people logged in which the current Tikiwiki installation hasn't).

• 8000Gb Monthly Transfer (4000 in + 4000 out)

90+ nodes
400MB database size
20 authenticated users
Mostly Anonymous

Caching:
Boost
CSS
Gzip
Block Cache

Traffic:
2k+ visits/hr
20million page views+/Month

As many of you know, Ubuntu Lucid shipped with PHP 5.3 which is incompatible with many Drupal 6 modules. The solution the Mercury team decided on was to pin PHP to 5.2 until the situation with 5.3 was resolved. Mercury 1.1 has this built in.

We've added all php5 packages to the file and are hosting it here: http://pantheon-storage.chapterthree.com/lucid

6/18/10 - found a bug and update the above file and the list below (for some reason, changing php5-imagick, php-apc and php5-memcache to karmic-updates caused it to fail)
6/15/10 - added updates from http://groups.drupal.org/node/75003 (view that page if you're using aptitude rather than apt-get)

Private file transfers - Photosite

Hi,

i am doing conceptional works/thinking about building up a photo page. The idea is to grant all users access on all images up to 3000px (traffic limit ony daily basis, because i dont want users to exploit and batchdownload all images). Resolutions bigger than 3000px are only for premium mebers.

Proper way to make Cacherouter-APC, Boost work with Aegir (multisite in general) ?

Hi,

Playing with Aegir - it is a great tool, but want to make it on steroids: use boost Boost and Cacherouter+APC as an user object cache for all sites. I will not touch Varnish for now.
What is the proper way to make config that works? Problem is, that I am changing "platforms" on Aegir rapidly and moving "sites" between them often, but haven't found the way to configure them globally.

APC vs. Memcache - why I do get better results with APC?

Hi,

How is memcache different form APC if both are used as user-object caches, with the same Cacherouter module?
1) APC as opcode + APC as user storage
2) APC as opcode + memcached as user storage

What I see is that in real life I get better results (page refresh times, server load) with case 1) - memory allocation in both cases ~100MB
So is memcache useful at all if using just 1 server? I really doubt it is faster...

What is your experience?

Drupal in the Cloud

I'm converting a site from regular PHP/MySQL to Drupal. Average traffic for this site over the last 12 months is:
Page Views: 1,400,000/month
Visitors: 170,000/month

I have a Rackspace Cloud Server set up with 2GB RAM + 80GB HD + quad-core AMD Opteron @ 3Ghz. The cloud server is running CentOS 5.3, cPanel, Apache 2.2, PHP 5.2.13, and MySQL 5.0.90.

Load testing with 100 clients caused the server load to skyrocket. Would the best approach be:
1. Increase the RAM and HD on the existing cloud server
2. Add another cloud server to offload the database duties
