We are proud to announce the 0.4 Alpha 11 release of the Aegir Hosting System. The previous alpha release did not provide a suitable upgrade path for users who were already running alpha 9 and later. The only addition is the relevant fix to allow these users to safely upgrade their systems.

As before, this release requires you to use Drush 3.3.

I need to be able to control site users' bandwidth and diskspace usage.

At this point we are primarily concerned with bandwidth.
I thought I'd get some feedback on how I'm thinking about solving this issue:

• Create a module for Aegir that requires Apache module mod_cband (http://codee.pl/cband.html).
• Module provides a settings panel per site that allows for bandwidth limits to be set.
• Module implements hook_provision_apache_vhost_config which generates vhost config for each site that reflects the bandwidth settings.

First thank you for all the work that has been put into Aegir and Mercury/Pantheon. I've been keeping an eye on both for a while and am ready to jump in. While my needs aren't heavy ... yet. A current project has the potential to need the power and scalability of Mercury/Pantheon and I want Aegir to make life simpler for implementing new sites and creating test development environments. So with that in mind I am creating a new server at Linode and will be migrating my sites(mostly D6 with one D5) from my old standard server.

Since I am converting from a box that wasn't using Apache/Solr, had no reverse proxy(Varnish) or caching such as APC/memcached in place I don't have to have those options fully in place on day one. I can activate those as I get a handle on their unique twists due to multi-site on Mercury/Pantheon. But I do want to lay the groundwork and get as much in place up front as I can.

I have been reading everything I can find(I'll include some of the links at the end of this post), which has answered many of my questions. But has also lead to a few more detailed new ones.

I'm trying to install 0.4a9, and after patching drush with the table.inc patch, the install gets to asking about the admin e-mail adress, but then it just freezes there. Mysql cpu % spikes, but nothing actually happens in the db, "show full processlist" returns a line like this:

Any ideas on how I can proceed?

I have Aegir 0.4 alpha7 installed. I tried to do an upgrade to alpha9 and got hit with some errors about which I posted here. I then tried a fresh install and encountered essentially the same error. Here's the entire output of the install.sh.txt script:

As of August 5 2010 it would appear any attempt to install aegir fails due to a corrupt drush install. Prior to August 5 2010 everything was working as expected. When can we expect an update on this? Thanks -

Is it possible with aegir (in future versions) that I can create ftp/ssh accounts for each client site that I create with disk quota limits? The problem as of now, is that I have the flexibility of creating sites for clients in a wink but cannot provide them with any ftp user accounts to upload files/modules.

Suggestion of creating a symlink as mentioned in http://groups.drupal.org/node/41584 does not solve the purpose. As that way, I cannot restrict the user from exceeding their disk quota (which is ubuntu set for their home folder).
