This group works on internationalization issues, like making it possible to translate menus, nodes and taxonomies in Drupal. This includes everything from process and workflows, to actual code issues or optimizations required. The Translations group is where to go if you are working on translating Drupal core or contrib modules.

We'll review current top priority tasks and discuss new ones to work on. Let's keep momentum on our active issues in property translation, config translation, gettext generalization, etc. We should keep going strong! There are still plenty of opportunities to help! Come to this meeting and ask for tasks. We can find tasks for all skill levels and interests!
The meeting is in the #drupal-i18n channel on IRC. See http://drupal.org/irc for more information. The time above is marked with UTC - check in your own timezone.

A client of me has a problem with their multi lingual site. The client contacted me asking why their English home page was showing on google.fr.
Set-up:
- Site with 3 languages: fr, en, and nl.
- fr is the default language.
- Language detection: URL with path prefix as first method, and language settings of the browser as second.
- The home page points to a given node (specified at admin/config/system/site-information) and differs per language.

Are you and your customers going to enjoy all the great new multilingual features in Drupal 8 that some great people are working to build? We are organizing a whole week of sprinting in Barcelona in mid-June, and all our attendees are volunteers! Getting people to travel and find accommodation on their own dime as well as work the whole week to build these great things for Drupal 8 is a tall order. To help the sprinters out with some food costs as well as get them focus even more on the sprint tasks by taking care of some catering, I'm trying to contribute a little to get the attendees more comfortable at the sprint.
The sponsors we have so far either provide the space or send people, but I've had a pretty hard time to get sponsors for feeding the troops. If you can help, please don't hesitate, see the details at http://groups.drupal.org/node/221944

We'll review current top priority tasks and discuss new ones to work on. We did not manage to keep the momentum we picked up in Denver and there are many issues lingering with big change proposals but lack of people working on them. We'll not reach far in Drupal 8 if we don't pick up these tasks again. We should keep going strong!

Drupal Developer Days is coming up fast in Europe. This year, the host city is Barcelona in Spain and dates are Friday, June 15, to Sunday, June 17, 2012. The programme includes sprints on Friday with sessions and a party on Saturday and more sessions on Sunday morning. There are many interesting sessions proposed, and more are welcome.
What best opportunity to couple with some multilingual sprinting as well! It is hard to find a place where people are as active about Drupal and as interested in multilingual issues at the same time as in this region of the world nowadays. In January I've proposed a pretty intensive sprint schedule for this year, which includes all weekdays sprinting before Drupal Dev Days Barcelona (Monday to Friday). So our sprint would be from June 11th (Mon) to June 15th (Fri), leading into the Drupal Dev Days conference. The location for the sprint is the same as the camp. Citilab, "a center for social and digital innovation in Cornella de Llobregat, Barcelona". Many of us are staying in the NH Cornella, but it is not a requirement to stay there. It would be practical to stay close.
When talking to people it turned out that might not be entirely realistic, but as usual, we strive on better data to make decisions, so I'd call every interested party to fill in this signup doodle and indicate their likely availability. Now this event is barely two months away, so it should be easier to tell your availability compared to January. Remember that your information helps determine the final dates for the sprint, so don't hesitate to provide your availability.
Nobody should drop their keyboards until the sprint of course! There is plenty of work to do that you can help with from any of our top priority tasks in the meantime and even instead of attending the sprint. If you need help picking from that list, let me know and I can help you personally. Also, we hold initiative IRC meetings every two weeks with the next one coming up on April 11th. Watch this space for further announcements!
Sponsors
Finances: dotProjects.be, Cando Image, Open8, Acquia and Dave Reid
Sprinters: Amazee Labs, build2be, Wizzlern, Ymbra, Acquia and others.
Location: Citilab.
Logistics: Cambrico
Looking for sponsors
I'm looking for sponsors to help feed the troops. Think soft drinks, pastries, healthy snacks, lunch ordered in, etc. to help people keep going. If you are interested, please contact me at http://drupal.org/user/4166/contact

We made some greta progress at Drupalcon Denver, especially with the extended sprint after the conference. However, a lot of things are only close to being done (committed) yet, and we should keep going!

It is that time again! We'll review current top priority tasks and discuss new ones to work on.
We are setting ourselves in direction for the sprint at/after Drupalcon Denver. There are some very exciting patches close to being ready and/or landing like introducing some new special languages on the API level, so we can figure out how to expose them best on the UI at Drupalcon. Also made good progress on some interface translation patches that need a final push before Drupalcon, so we can build on their success and move forward. Fixing the ever present issue of no discovery support for singular/plural pairs and providing a UI for them is on the plate now as well as introducing customized string tracking.
I'd love to be able to work with you all at Drupalcon to solve even more user problems and move forward with our progress introducing language all around. Help and reviews on the current issues as well as any other issues is welcome!

Read moreTaxonomy in a multilingual environment
The website I want to discuss has the following configuration (Drupal version 7.12):
domain.be/nl-BE/ => Belgian website, Dutch language
domain.be/fr-BE/ => Belgian website, French language
domain.fr => French website (always French)
domain.nl => Dutch website (always Dutch)
So, there are 4 languages (Belgian NL, Belgian FR, French FR, Dutch NL). The Belgian websites have a language prefix (nl-BE, fr-BE) and there are three different language domains (domain.be, domain.fr and domain.nl). All those settings are configured in Languages (admin/config/regional/language).

We have a big set of focus issues now due to the sprint on the weekend before last week and we are picking up steam making progress! We have some pretty interesting tasks in the current focus, like introducing language support to all entities (http://drupal.org/node/1454538), providing much more flexible settings on entity language defaults (http://drupal.org/node/258785), track customized interface translations (vs. community provided) (http://drupal.org/node/1445004), and make it possible to edit plural translations inside Drupal (a feature we have been missing forever - http://drupal.org/node/532512). Help and reviews on these issues as well as any other focus issues is welcome!

Read moreReport from the Budapest sprint on Drupal 8 Multilingual Initiative issues
We just held a one-day sprint in person in Budapest (sponsored by the NIIF Institute, heavy Drupal users themselves) and over IRC on #drupal-i18n this past weekend to make significant progress on some of the D8MI issues. Given almost all in-person attendees were new to Drupal 8, some new to working on Drupal core, I chose issues which were easier to pick up but great help for D8MI to roll along, as well as asked people to help review existing issues and work on (upgrade) tests. All-in-all, we had the following people in attendance in person: @balagan, @csg, @Desire, @eager, @hairqles, @kalman.hosszu, @pkiraly, @roderik, @tanarurkerem, @zly and myself. In attendance over IRC were @clemens.tolboom, @fubhy, @reyero and @tstoeckler. (Hope I did not leave anybody out).
We made very good progress on the following issues.

We are holding a one day sprint for people interested in working on solutions for the Drupal 8 Multilingual Initiative. The physical sprint is in Budapest, on Saturday, Feb 18th from 9am to 6pm local time (CET). Because most of you would not be able to make it in person, we'll also hang out in #drupal-i18n so if you want to join, feel free to do so then and there. Because this is a one day sprint only and people attending the sprint will be mostly new to Drupal 8 development (experienced in Drupal development in general though), we expect to work on lower hanging fruit tasks.
