The second monthly meeting of the Louisiana Drupal Users Group represented a 167% increase in attendance in just one month! OK, so it was an increase from 3 to 8, but still, I'd like to see a group with a better percent increase in its first two months!
Thanks to all who attended at Cooter Brown's Tavern in New Orleans on Dec. 2 including Doug, Brian, Eric, Sabrina, Jim, Hank and Jason.
We had a brief discussion about growing the group, pursuing a Drupalcamp down the road, and then shared some general discussion about tips trends in Drupal.

I am very glad I attended and the enthusiasm and knowledge of those in attendance was great. Cooter Browns is not a good choice for future meetings as it was too noisy but served us well for the first New Orleans meeting.
There were 8 of us attending and most were make a living at Drupal. It seemed that we all had at least two plus years experience and exposure to Drupal starting with version 5.
People in attendance were:
James Capparell (me)
Hank Yates
Jeff Diecks
Doug Miller
Brian Berlin
Sabrina Schmidt
Eric Schmidt
Jason Want

We are planning the next Meetup in New Orleans Thursday, December 2nd 7pm. Now time to settle on a location.
We definitely need beer and internet access and preferably food. There is a list of WiFi restaurants in New Orleans from Urban Spoon: http://www.urbanspoon.com/New-Orleans I vote for Cooter Brown's it has all the requirements and is pretty easy to find. The Bulldog has a nice beer selection. Both Cooter Brown's and The Bulldog have confirmed that WiFi is available.
I am open to suggestions.

We had the (we think) first-ever Baton Rouge meetup for the Louisiana Drupal Users Group on Thursday, November 4 at The Pastime in downtown Baton Rouge. bberlin, jeffdiecks and schmook attended.
We discussed growing the group the old fashioned way, by each attempting to bring a friend to a future meetup and beginning to create some consistency and momentum behind the group. We noted that New Orleans likely missed out on a very real opportunity to host DrupalCon 2012 due to the lack of a strong local Drupal community.

Looking to get a Louisiana Drupal meetup going, even if it's only just 2 or 3 of us to start (this is how Drupal Atlanta started).
How about once a month on Thursday nights to start with. Who's in for Thursday, Nov. 4 in Baton Rouge? Once we have a couple of people interested we can choose a location.
If you are in, RSVP here: http://www.meetup.com/louisianadrupal/
For New Orleans folks, perhaps we can alternate meetups between Baton Rouge and New Orleans?

Hey folks!
There was a survey about where to host Drupalcons posted into the Drupalcon North America Organizing Group (read the post about it).
One of the cities in the list, as suggested by the events company that is used to help organize the conferences, was New Orleans.
I didn't see much conversation about it here, so I wanted to kick things off.
What do Louisiana folks think about this possibility?

Hello from New Orleans!
I'm currently a Marine stationed here in NOLA and an aspiring Drupal developer. Although I'm in the beginner learning phase I am always looking for ways to enhance my skills. I have created one drupal site for a non-profit here in the local area. The site is siliconbayou.afceachapter.org. There hosting servers tend to be slow at times so I apologize if you have a delay when viewing.

I think it would be great if we could begin to create a Drupal presence in New Orleans. I know it would help me to meet other like minded people. Please let me and other members know if you're interested by commenting here. I'm tired of seeing all the other cities have all the fun and Louisiana becomes a digital backwater.
I think Loyala is a Drupal shop (judging from job posting last summer here). I emailed them and volunteered as intern there (need to improve my Drupal skills) and never even heard back.
