An initial build of ELMS: Collaborative Learning Environment (CLE) was released today. The focus of CLE is two fold. The first component is to allow students to collaborate, critique, rate, and comment on each other's assignments / media. This is known as an "Open Studio" concept in the arts and we've tried to mirror it in some of our courses previously.

The second part is integration of Assignment Studio and Rubric toolsets. These allow instructors to grade assignments in a consistent way and provide more standardized feedback to students. Feedback can always be over-ridden by instructors but it's a good way of improving consistency across course with multiple instructors / TAs.

This is a rough build mostly to give people a sense of what this project will be in the future (and hopefully to get others interested). It is alpha and the UX hasn't been cleaned up but it is functional so I wanted to get it out there. This is a different distribution from the ELMS:Content Alpha 3 distribution released at the end of March. Currently there are plans for 3 distributions all released under the ELMS brand.
