so what happened last night?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Kelly, Rob and I were late but when we go there the door was locked and now one was there. Were we the only ones?

I had school committee

rick hood's picture

I had school committee meeting (7pm). Tuesdays are bad for me because of that. Otherwise I would have been there. Hoping to get more regular.

I wouldn't mind a session around "recipes for doing stuff" - like putting modules together to do whatever (like the best way to do slideshows these days, etc.).

Also interested in what people usually use for base themes (Zen, NineSixty, Zen nineSixty whatever) and any tricks or best practices.

Framework

skowyra's picture

In Drupal 6, Framework is a good starter theme. I've worked with Zen and Fusion. Even the starter themes have a bit too much overhead for what I usually need. It appears that the latest version of Framework is using HTML5. Div tags have been replaced with HTML5 tags. So if you download that one, make sure the version fits your needs.

Intro, starter themes and recipes

Hi,
I've not ever spoken up here before but... hi. My name is Johanna, and I am a nonprofit Drupal (and WordPress and I have worked in several other CMS platforms in the past) front-end developer/builder and nonprofit tech strategist living in Montague. I run a collaborative practices, and usually work remotely with people far away, in California, mostly (just how it's been working out these days). I can never make it to your meetups, sadly, as they are a bad match with my schedule. But I appreciate following along on in the Drupal.org group, at least.

In any case, I wanted to chime in and say that I also have found that the Fusion theme is overkill unless I'm working on an enterprise level site (which I only do when I'm collaborating with a large firm--I prefer working on more straightforward sites these days). I like Zen a lot better. I've built one site so far in Drupal 7 (my own) and am starting another soon. I found Omega to be similarly overkill, and I'm really enjoying Sky as a very stripped-down blog-like quick-start alternative (at least for smaller sites). @skowyra I will definitely give Framework a try. Has anyone tried Drupal 7's HTML5 theme "Boron"? I haven't looked at it yet, but am intrigued.

@Rick Hood I have been experimenting with Aggregator and Views in Drupal 7, and just yesterday I posted a "recipe" for a Flickr slideshow on my blog, if you're interested check it out here:

Anyway, nice to virtually meet you all!

Best wishes,
Johanna

I had All Town Meeting

I had All Town Meeting -the annual exercise in small town democracy - now continued to June 7th because we did not finish that warrant.

I'm interested in base themes that work well on computer or mobile. Also, I continue to be interested in search.

I had to work late

and teach a surprise Citizen Journalism class, buit it 's the in-between times in Amherst - all the Colleges just finsihing, summer not quite started, it messes with the Valleys' cicadian rhythms. Maybe we should have more informal summer meetups...

Meeting norm

Dave H. and I had a pleasant meeting until 6:30. A vote was then taken and passed to close the meeting. The room was vacated and the doors secured.

Wrapped up -- will try to get more regular

crotown's picture

I've been pretty wrapped up with my new job at imbee.com and have a similar problem to j.bates, I work with many people from California (since Imbee is headquartered in Walnut Creek, CA) and my schedule tends to shift later. But since Imbee wants me to get out to Drupal meetups I will definitely try more -- I've at least been learning a ton from working full-time on a Drupal-based team and I look forward to sharing some tricks I've picked up, and I now understand enough to at least ask questions about some important modules that thoroughly mystified me before (like Spaces, Panels, and OG) since I've had some exposure because Imbee uses them.

Look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones!
