Using Domain Module to create a development and easy update live environment?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Last group meeting we talked about how to easily develop and the update the live site as needed especially when there are updates to the database.
I noticed as I am working with the domain module that it has an interface that seems to make it possible to develop and them copy those updates per module/table to another domain. (see screen shot)
Need to look into it more but just wondering if people have any thoughts.

Hi Al,

I don't see a screen shot but do you mean like the attached? That's all I see in domain module that sounds like what you mean (but I am just using 5.x version not 6.x). As far as I know this is just to create separate tables for certain domains, in case you wanted to use separate tables for certain domains instead of sharing the entire database.

PS: At the meeting we were talking about how to synchronize a development site to a live site, which obviously means two things:

  1. Syncing the files - that seems not difficult.

  2. Syncing the 2 databases - this I have no clue about - but there must be something out there than can sync 2 MySQL database, even when table structures have changed? Like this http://www.synctables.com ?
