DB Maintenance module version?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I just installed the DB maintenance module (version 6.x-1.1) and am following chapter 15 in Bill's book. I noticed that it doesn't give the options to back up the database as illustrated on p. 340.

Some searching turned up that version 2.1 (in both 5 and 6) have this capability. 2.1 for D6 is in beta. I would love the functionality but don't want to break anything. Any suggestions?

Use 6.x-2.0-beta1 from 2008-Sep-30 -- we need to cut a point release, but we have been using this on several sites.

In short, your site will not explode!

Cheers,

Bill

On the edge, eh?

That's easy for you to say! :)

I will be emailing, no, calling you, Erik, if my site blows up.

OK, taking a deep breath here and downloading the new DB Maintenance version. That would be the one with the scary looking warning symbol next to it, right?

Fingers crossed....

Ka-BOOM!

All kidding aside, you should be in good shape with this release: http://drupal.org/node/315588

And, as a point of best practice, make a copy of your db if you are installing a module you want to test, or might want to uninstall.

That way, if things don't work out, you can delete the tested module, drop the tables of your db, and restore from your backup, and it's like nothing ever happened.

Cheers,

Bill

No big booms!

Everything worked great! Well, that's not totally true, since I got 2 error messages saying that tar and mysqldump are not in the directories specified. I SSH'd in, by golly, they are in those directories. I'm in the midst of a long series of emails with tech support at my host trying to resolve this.

At any rate, thanks again.
