This group is for libraries - public, academic, school, law, what-have-you. It is not about code libraries.
Ask questions and/or tell us what your library or organization is up to.
Please add your library to our Drupal libraries roster
For an introduction to how Drupal can be used by libraries, take a look at Ellyssa Kroski's excellent overview.
I am new to Drupal and am working on a test site. I like the concept of the Web File Manager, but cannot find a way to do batch file uploads of images and documents. Is this possible? Our current library website has hundreds of files that need to be transferred. I'm hoping not one at a time.
I have my production site just about ready to go (Yay!) but, I would like to have a test site for updating modules, etc. Ideally, I would have a completely separate site either hosted or locally to play with, but I have yet to get a local site working well and I don't have the budget to pay for two sites hosted. Bluehost said I could just make a folder called test and move a complete Drupal install there and then my test site would be domainname.com/test. I have some ideas about doing this, but if anyone has done this before, I would love some ideas on how to best accomplish this.Read more
At Index Data I've lately been working on a Drupal module for Pazpar2 (http://www.indexdata.com/pazpar2), our XML webservice based metasearch engine. Check it out in the git sandbox (http://drupal.org/sandbox/skomorokh/1103554) I've created (D6 for now but a D7 branch is on its way). While very much under development, basic functionality is all there and it would be great to get feedback as I polish it for release.Read more
What is the best way to archive documents created and used in a Drupal intranet? I work for an NGO that is setting up their intranet using the drupal platform, and we are organizing our materials using "documents" under each "group". These documents are office policies, forms, etc. They are updated every year or so. We would like our employees to have access to the old versions while being able to identify the most current iterations of these documents.Read more
I'm attempting to migrate my functioning Drupal site from one host to another. I have tried several different methods (importing the database, then loading the files; using their Drupal install and then loading my database; cursing at the computer) and all have given me different error messages that seem to be at the database level. I have changed sites/default/settings.php to reflect the new database information. The error seems to always come from something called the lock.ini file. I've looked around online and talked with the new hosting company for a bit, but have not had any luck.Read more

I'm interested to hear if there are any libraries with experience in creating WARC indexes from their Drupal websites. From what I read in the Exlibris Primo documentation WARC indexes are required so that Primo can harvest the website data and include in its search capability. Have you done this for your library website / library catalogue search?Read more
I'm fairly new to Drupal, but have created some sites before. In the past, I typically used Google Analytics to monitor the site traffic and noticed that there is a Google Analytics module, but I was wondering what others thought of it and if there might be a better solution with a Drupal site.
I'm wondering if anyone out there can help out a php newbie. I'm trying to add a snippet of code to the bottom of a tpl.php file for a block view. The code I'm trying to add is this:

where "5865" is the node id. I don't know how to make that a variable in php on a tpl.php file. Any help is greatly appreciated!Read more
Did you suck at Drupal? Have you been responsible for a Drupal-related disaster? Or perhaps you’ve created a mess of another CMS? You are not alone!

I'm working with the MAYO theme (http://drupal.org/project/mayo) and it has a nice feature where you can turn on and off a search box in the header through Administrator-Themes-Settings. I'd like to use this search box, but with a different search box (one that searches our library catalog). So, basically, I'm looking for a place to stick the HTML code in the MAYO theme so that that search box becomes my search box. I've looked through the CSS and other files in the theme, but all I see is the layout of the search box, not the actual information for the search box.Read more
Hiya. Do you have suggestions for storing and presenting opening hours in Drupal 7? This is quite a mundane and universal problem, so i'm absolutely sure this has been solved in many ways. There is the Opening Hours -module, which isn't available for D7 at this time though. The Danish ting.DING uses Office Hours, and present this information very well (see the Aarhus libraries f.ex.) in a list, on a map and for individual libraries.Read more
Okay, we have a Library BoF scheduled at DrupalCon Chicago! The event is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday at 1:45-3:15p. It will take place in the 'Colorado Room'.
The following is what I wrote in the description to the event. Feel free to add anything in comments:
"Drupal is increasing playing a critical role in the online presence of libraries of all sizes, shapes and varieties. In fact, the Drupal Community among librarians is quite large -- and growing larger all the time.
The Library BoF (I & II) will be an opportunity to get together and informally discuss what we do, what we need, and what we can look forward to in our role as bibliographic Drupalers.
All librarians and their friends are invited to attend.
P.S. On maybe Wednesday after 6pm... if anyone wants to go to Gino's East (Superior St. just east of Michigan Ave) which is close by and famous for Chicago's Deep Dish pizza -- just email me.Read more
Have you got a great suggestion for a new and innovative way to use library data but maybe not the technical skills to bring that idea to life? Submit an idea for an application or data mashup to be eligible for this prize. Your idea might then be developed by someone else as an application or mashup as part of Libraryhack. For inspiration have a look at the list of data sets to be made available by the participating libraries and from February 8, submit an idea. You can enter as many times as you like.Read more
Have you ever made a mashup? Now's your chance to get involved and create a mashup or app of your own, or collaborate with another creator. Get your hands on library collection content and data and remix it to create a new application, image, digital story or other new content – and enter it in the Libraryhack competition!Read more

Hi, nice to meet you all ...
I have to build a digital library with ecommerce functionalities for an important publishing company in Italy ...
After assessing other carts (Magento, Cs-Cart, ecc.) trying to find something standardized and pre-done, I realized that DRUPAL is the only tool that will meet the specific properties of the library (mainly pubblications - articles - authors 1-n & n-n relationships).
This will mean more customization work, but I'm happy anyway because I'm loving the features and capabilities of Drupal.
We're looking for a multimedia designer, but Drupal experience is greatly preferred.Read more
We are looking to go-live with our Drupal site within the next month and have run into challenges with the language translation module. We are planning to offer abridged versions of the site in 5 other languages and are using Drupal 6. We are looking for someone who has done this before and can work with our in-house developers to get this done. We prefer someone on-site but would be willing to work remotely if it gets the job done. There is no content translation needed - just setting it up so we can put the content in.Read more
