Know of any more Drupal-based educational sites out there that aren't school or university sites?
I added a few I know of to the Drupal-based Education sites page http://groups.drupal.org/node/11258
including FreshBrain, Edutopia, EdTechTalk, and EDUCAUSE. Any others?
I may be giving a workshop on using Drupal to build educational sites at the MERLOT conference this year, and would like to show off more examples: http://conference.merlot.org/2009/
I'm also teaching an Internet development class this summer and would like to introduce Drupal once we get past the basics of HTML/CSS, since most people use a CMS tool nowadays to create real websites, not code everything from scratch.

Oregon
The State of Oregon Department of Education is using Drupal quite a bit for small, ad-hoc intranet sites. We're also using Drupal for much of the state's central online learning infrastructure (http://orvsd.org).

How about
How about http://openplanner.org? This site is for allowing teachers to collaborate in creating curriculum and lesson plans within their content groups. The site is free to use. The organization behind Openplanner is called Open Educator and is a license non-profit society.
Also http://pedagogle.com, a file sharing website for teacher resources. It allows you to upload your digital resources to share under a creative commons license.

Webzine2 Uses Drupal
I am the editor of Webzine2, a new publication for international education professionals (http://iteachnet.org). We use drupal. We would be using drupal6 instead of 5 if we didn't have so much trouble with events. (Work-arounds noted; time will allow for upgrading soon, we hope.).
http://OpenSourceSchools.org uses Drupal 5. Our hosting, design and development on http://makethewebyours.com is also Drupal5. ISchoolnet.org (school-services) is an early attempt at Drupal 6.
http://schoolforge.net is an organization of which we are a member and it uses Drupal. (Highly recommend your involvement there.)
We are a community-project organization. We welcome like-minded teacher-techies' involvement.
Thanks for all the great work on DrupalEd. It's getting better and better.

GoNellGo: Chinese studies
I'm porting over my class notes to http://gonellgo.com. Currently just a dictionary (you can have your own bookmarks), but as time allows I'll be porting it to D6 and then adding lecture notes on Chinese Lit. and so on. (Irresistable plug: http://limitlesshorizonsllc.com)
Portland State University
My company just finished deploying a 60+ multi-site installation of drupal for Portland State University. I hope to write a detailed set of blogs on the project, the community and custom modules we built, and challenges dealing with over 3 gigs of media and 1500+ page sites.
http://www.pdx.edu
Almost every site you see there is on Drupal.
We also created a centralized syndication server in Drupal as well. Here are examples of the client.

The National Strategies use Drupal
http://nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk - Big site upwards of 20 million hits a month.
Also Teachers TV (www.teachers.tv) used Drupal for about 3 years up until about a month ago.
under construction
I am building a site right now that is intended to provide a good way for Learning Objects to be mashed up with quiz questions, glossaries, notes and other Learning Objects. Seems like a good fit for a Merlot conference, but I can't promise it will be ready for any serious use by August. The mods I've written to facilitate the mashups aren't ready to be distributed, but people can have an OG at my site if they want to play.

I came across a site that provides teachers and students a collaborative platform for interactive online learning website www.funnelbrain.com, it also givea us an option to upload videos and photos related to education thought you might find the link useful where teachers and children can make learning a fun activity.
