Template variable issue

Hi all,

I'm having a issue with a variable I've created as a template variable. I imagine I'm missing something really basic.

You can see the result at rnp.org/beta, move from page to page and see the value inside "Currently Power... change.

$MW = db_query("SELECT SUM(field_project_capacity_value) FROM drpl_content_type_project WHERE field_project_capacity_unit_value = 'MW'");
$int_MW = (int)$MW;
$KW = db_query("SELECT SUM(field_project_capacity_value) FROM drpl_content_type_project WHERE field_project_capacity_unit_value = 'KW'");
$int_KW = (int)$KW;

Podcast Topics

For those of you who don't know (which is probably 99% of you), I have taken over the Acquia Drupal podcast (my first episode just went up today here). I have a couple more interviews lined up, but after that I'm going to need some more, so if you are doing something cool in Drupal (or know someone else who is) and think it would be a good topic, drop me a note, and we can schedule an interview.

Drupal 7 Code Sprint

Start:
2010-07-25 10:00 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

CHX will be in Seattle July 25-26 and has expressed interested in having a code sprint here to crank on the D7 criticals queue and port modules to D7. Is anyone interested in this? While this event will probably be pretty code-centric, I think it would be an excellent introduction for people who are curious and interested in how to get more involved in the Drupal community. If Jennifer can make it, I'm sure she would be up for some documentation queue wrangling and we can make sure there is stuff for all skill levels to do.

REMINDER: This Wednesday's User Group Meeting (Mailchimp Module + Communicating with Your Users)

Start:
2010-06-09 18:00 - 19:30 America/Los_Angeles
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

Hey everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that this WEDNESDAY (June 9) is the date of our monthly Portland Drupal User Group Meeting.

The theme for the June meeting will be "Communicating with Your Users" and the main presentation will feature Lev Tsypin, a Portland developer who maintains the popular Mailchimp module (http://drupal.org/project/mailchimp). The module allows you to send bulk-emails to your users by integrating with the excellent third-party Mailchimp service (http://www.mailchimp.com).

Lev's presentation will be useful not only to those interested in using the Mailchimp service, but also to developers who need to write modules that interact with third-party APIs.

Some of the topics Lev will be covering include:

  • Benefits/challenges of developing a "wrapper" module that interacts with Mailchimp's own API
  • Benefits/challenges of upgrading the module to Drupal 7
  • One-way vs. Two-way integration: Pushing data to Mailchimp and/or pulling data from Mailchimp

We're also looking for some shorter "lightning talk" style presentations on other modules or approaches that you've used to communicate with your users. This could be technical information or code, or a broader discussion of best practices you've discovered for sending e-mail, text messages, or the like.

If you're interested in delivering a lightning talk, please post a comment below so that I can plan out available time. I'll likely be delivering one myself on either the Private Message module (http://drupal.org/project/privatemsg) or the IM module (http://drupal.org/project/im).

And of course, here are the meeting details:

Date: Wednesday, June 9
Time: 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. (after the meeting, we head to Lucky Lab for drinks!)
Location: OpenSourcery offices (1636 NW Lovejoy St. Portland, OR 97209)

See you there,
Ben

Open Source Bridge: Project Management Talks

Open Source Bridge was last week, June 1 - 4th in Portland, OR. This is a conference near and dear to me, it's open source citizens from all over the world gathering to talk about the issues we're all facing, and geeking out on what we're all doing. Lots of fun talks, but the two below are more 'useful'.

Dynamic Views Filters in D6

I have a D5 view that uses argument handling code to dynamically filter events for an academic year. In Drupal 6, I've upgraded from the events module to using the CCK date field, so the date would not be a timestamp any longer. That's easy enough, but I'm not sure how to get the equivalent filter functionality Drupal 6.

Has anyone tried something like this or does anyone know how to achieve the end result in some other way?

Argument Handling Code
$view->is_cacheable = 0;
if(date("n") <= 6) {
// second, minute, hour, month, day, year

PDXPHP meetup at OSBridge with Haiping Zhao of Facebook and HipHop for PHP

Just a reminder that for the coders amongst you, that the PDXPHP group (the group that spawned our DUG) are meeting at Open Source Bridge this Thursday with Haiping Zhao of Facebook and HipHop PHP. HipHop is one of the major recent developments in the ‘PHP-verse’, but the discussion can go wherever the audience wants it to go.

Combining results from node reference fields with multiple values

I have view that uses fields and grabs node titles - all deltas - from a node reference field via a relationship. Is there a way to get views not to generate a new row for every title that is being returned?

I have a feeling this is getting into hook_views_pre_render() or views_query_alter() territory...

All thoughts and advice appreciated.

Which modules?

If it's not obvious yet, I am new here.

Example: a Drupal site for a museum

User creates a login indicating areas of interest based on the taxonomy.
Home page contains a link to MyMuseum which displays a page of content aggregated from the site based on the afore-mentioned taxonomy.

E.g. Dylan's MyMuseum page has all kinds of info about dinosaurs and pirates, but Olivia's MyMuseum page has content all about space exploration and sculpture.

What combination of modules do I need? (I have rss aggregator and Twitter to collect the content.)

June 9 Meetup

At this evening's Brewpal (where we usually confirm the next usergroup agenda) jhedstrom and I discovered we are both out of town for the next meetup on Wednesday, June 9.

We're looking for someone who can put together an agenda and facilitate the June meetup. Open Sourcery will be available. If you're willing and able, let us know in the comments. I'll actually be out June, July, and August, so if you're going to be in P-town during the summer, there's more than one month in need.

Combining PNW IRC channels

Hey everybody!

So currently there are three Drupal channels for Pacific Northwest cities - #drupal-portland, #drupal-seattle and #drupal-vancouver. Right now there is a lot of overlap between these channels - people who hang out in two or three, but a lot of the time the individual channels are pretty dead. Additionally, since the Drupal Summit last year, there seems to be more of a broad community feeling between all the groups than there has in the past. So I was thinking maybe we should just do away with the three channels and form a new #drupal-pnw channel. It would bring more of us together and for many remove the need to join two or three channels individually. Local-only discussions could still happen on the groups, as it does already really.
