Presentation on transition from IBM Websphere to Drupal @ SF State

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi Everyone,

Here is a presentation I gave at the Berkeley Drupal User Group on Tuesday, and also will be delivering tonight at the South Bay LAMP meetup. It is basically a walkthrough on design and architecture decisions into current practices here at SF State.

Constructive criticism is welcome and encouraged. Also, it's in Powerpoint format but I made it on Ubuntu using OO Impress, so let me know if there are weird formatting issues.

very interesting, more?

Hey, any chance you could share some additional details on how you arrived at the decision to go with Drupal and what the experience has been like since implementation? Or possibly, grant some guest access to view the portal? We are currently just in the beginning stages of discussing a Portal here at Ashland University and we have already implemented our main ashland.edu website on Drupal so it intrigues me as a possibility.

The short answer is yes, I

The short answer is yes, I plan to do a full writeup on my blog, that's something that is really needed. Guest access to the portal is doubtful, though I was talking with the project manager today and we are going to either a) make some pieces of it public b) make a separate installation that is public (but still SSO)

A is problematic because currently we have everything behind Shibboleth Single-sign on. Making some pieces public and some private involves a lot of sysadmin work or re-working our security model.

B is much easier from an architectural perspective because we can just make a folder, e.g., public, and tell Shibboleth not to protect it. Then we just provide a link to the main portal where they can sign in (or the shib_auth block).

Anyways, I will be sure to post up the link when we have the public version out, though that won't be for a couple months. Before then, I will be contributing up some code, main thing right now is trying to figure out if the code should go as modules on d.o. or just up on github.

If you have more specific questions though feel free to message/e-mail me.

Thanks, I look forward to seeing your writeup and I may email you as we move further along in the Portal selection/implementation process.

It will have to be a 2-part

It will have to be a 2-part series, too tired to finish it tonight, and the 2nd-part has all the best stuff. That said, here is the start: http://www.nowarninglabel.com/home/bringing-drupal-to-SF-State
