Following webchick analisys of oters sites.
From an usability standpoint I think we should consider seriously point 4 of Request for proposals for a redesign of Drupal.org - Scope and Guidelines: 4. Developers -> Future dev landing page?
Separating landing pages will allow us to focus on attracting more people (non-developers) to Drupal front page, jQuery design team has done a great work with the ui landing page, it is simple but nice and very usable.

jQuery UI is a really nice landing page, and goes straight into the meat once you jump off it.
Atractive demo
Yes it is, and also have two atractive things for the visitor to stay on it more than five seconds:
The design itself and a screenshot that shines and that make you think that it is a nice soft that produces nice sites.
We could do something like that even with a rotating demo of Drupal sites.

More thoughts about landing pages here: http://groups.drupal.org/node/6568. I think the jQuery screenshot is probably a little too ideal, too clean to be applicable to the wealth of documentation we need to present for Drupal? I agree it's a very nice and effective landingpage and a nice example to try and emulate on drupal.org.
